Q.4 Everyday a bus leaves Delhi for Ambala and at the same instant another bus leaves Ambala for
Delhi. The two buses cross each other at Karnal. Yesterday the bus leaving Delhi started late by
30 minutes, as a result of which it met the bus going in the opposite direction 12 km short of the
usual meeting point. Today, the bus leaving Ambala started late by 30 minutes, as a result of
which the two buses met 12 minutes later than their usual meeting time. What is the speed of the
bus going from Delhi to Ambala?

Q.6 There is an empty tank to be filled with water using the three pipes ‘x’, ‘y’ & ‘z’. Pipe ‘x’ & ‘y’
alone can fill the tank completely in 30 hours and 45 hours respectively. If the pipes ‘x’ & ‘y’ are
opened in alternate hours along with ‘z’ (i.e., in the first hour pipes ‘x’ & ‘z’ fill the tank, in the
second hour pipes ‘y’ & ‘z’ fill the tank & so on), then the tank is 70% filled in 15 hours. If the
supply of through pipe ‘z’ is 75% of the original supply when it is opened along with pipe ‘x’ or
pipe ‘y’, then what is the time taken by pipe ‘z’ alone to fill the tank completely?

Q.7 If a + b + c + d + e + f + g + h + i + j = 100 and a > 1, b > 2, c > 3,…, j > 10, then find the

Direction for Questions 9 and 10:
A cat is stuck in a long tunnel, after covering a third of the length of the tunnel, the cat turns around and
notices a train, approaching the entrance of the tunnel, at a certain speed. He figures that to escape from
the train he could run towards the entrance of the tunnel, at his usual speed, and jump out of the tunnel
just in time before the train arrives at the entrance. Alternatively, he could run towards the exit of the
tunnel, at half his usual speed, and save himself just in time, before the train catches up with him from
behind at the exit.

Q.9 Find the ratio of the usual speed of the cat to that of Train.

Q.10 At the same moment the cat notices the train, he also notices a dog Blackie (his nemesis),
approaching the exit of the pipe at a constant speed. The cat figures out that he could save himself
just in time by running towards the exit at his maximum speed, which is thrice his usual speed, or
by running towards the entrance at a speed 20% higher than his usual speed, then find the ratio of
the speed of Train to that of Blackie. (Use data from previous question)
