1. Sole Proprietorship in the Philippines
a) Fishmonger / Butcher Shops – Different kinds of meat, poultry, and fish are a
favourite here in the country. Therefore, many open their own butcher shops and are
quite successful a lot of time because it is already considered an important part of
our food culture. They usually cut the meat or fish in front of you and you can also
request how big and small the cuts are to your satisfaction. You can even order in
advance if you’re close with the seller. A lot of people will definitely buy from these
butcher shops despite only being a sole proprietorship. Mostly shops in the wet
market are sole proprietors that sell vegetables, fish, and other raw foods for our
consumption.
b) Rice Retailers – Rice is a vital staple food in the Philippines hence, many farmers
instead of joining rice companies and using a medium to sell their harvest, they
already sell the rice to final customers. Many farmers and harvesters are sole
proprietors without knowing that they are (Brian, 2023).
