Agribusiness Management
1. Sole Proprietorship in the Philippines
a) Fishmonger / Butcher Shops – Different kinds of meat, poultry, and fish are a
favourite here in the country. Therefore, many open their own butcher shops and are
quite successful a lot of time because it is already considered an important part of
our food culture. They usually cut the meat or fish in front of you and you can also
request how big and small the cuts are to your satisfaction. You can even order in
advance if you’re close with the seller. A lot of people will definitely buy from these
butcher shops despite only being a sole proprietorship. Mostly shops in the wet
market are sole proprietors that sell vegetables, fish, and other raw foods for our
consumption.

b) Rice Retailers – Rice is a vital staple food in the Philippines hence, many farmers
instead of joining rice companies and using a medium to sell their harvest, they
already sell the rice to final customers. Many farmers and harvesters are sole
proprietors without knowing that they are (Brian, 2023).

Products: Dinurado, Malagkit, Sinandomeng, Angelica, Brown Rice, etc.

2. Partnership
a) TJ Wellness Wealth – A company established in 2005 based in Olongapo City,
Zambales, Philippines. The company started as a family business helped by friends.
It started as an advertising business until they found passion in focusing on natural
approaches when it comes to health and fitness maintenance. They focus in selling
organic products that are helpful to the body and promotes wellness living.

Products: Double Yolk Eggs, Ginger Pain Reliever, Grapeseed Vitamins, Chlorella
Coffee

b) Del Monte Philippines and Vinamilk – Del Monte Philippines Inc. (DMPI) is one of the
pioneering producers, distributors, and marketers of healthy food and beverage
products. It has already been in the industry for 97 years and is known for the
spaghetti sauces, packed pineapple and mixed fruits as well as, popular juices.
DMPI owns a 28,000-hectare pineapple plantation in Bukidnon, Philippines. Also
operates a frozen fruit processing facility in Bukidnon and a beverage bottling plant
in Cabuyao, Laguna. In addition, Del Monte partnered with Vinamilk in 2021 to
produce a new product called “YoGurt”, which is a drink packed with vitamins that
kids and parents can enjoy as a snack.

3. Corporation
a) Quezon Poultry and Livestock Corporation – Quezon Poultry and Livestock
Corporation is centred in raising and marketing livestock and poultry while keeping
up with the latest technology. They aim to build a strong social responsibility and
advocacy. Its adress is on QPLC Compound, Diversion Road, Kanlurang Mayao
4301, Lucena, Philippines.

b) Magnolia Chicken and Monterey – It is a subsidiary in San Miguel Foods Inc.


Magnolia Chicken operates in the agro-industrial sector, specifically in the
commercial feeds, poultry, pork, and beef industries, where it holds the largest
market shares. Monterey Foods Corporation, which housed the company’s meats
division, was combined into SMFI in 2010 to create what is currently referred to as
the Poultry & Meats division in order to maximise synergies and strengthen each
business’ position as a market leader. The Poultry and Meats Business has
reinforced and enlarged its core technical resources as a result of the merger. It has
also created a more cost-effective organisational structure and increased the size of
its food product production and retail activities. The top-selling fresh meats products
in the nation continue to be Monterey for pig and beef, and Magnolia for chicken, two
of SMFI’s core brands.

4. Cooperative
a) La Trinidad Organic Practitioner MPC – It is located at Baguio-La Trinidad-Bontoc
Road, La Trinidad, Philippines. Benguet and its surrounding areas’ organic
practitioners form the cooperative La Trinidad Organic Practitioner MPC. Its principal
line of business is the marketing of organically grown produce, including fruits,
vegetables, and processed foods like chips, noodles, tea, and other items. Due to
the strong demand for organic veggies and other products linked to organic food, it
was created by 26 people, and membership has since risen to 223 and is still
growing.

Products: Raw Vegetables and Fruits, Organic Chips and Tea, and Other Organic
Products.

b) Kalasag Farmers Producers Cooperative – It is located at Zone 1-B Barangay San


Agustin. P.C. 3121, San Jose City, Nueva Ecija. It is a agricultural Cooperative that
helps farmers financially and teaches them other knowledge that can improve their
status and methods in Farming. On March 31, 2017, 41 members of the KALASAG
Farmers Producers Cooperative of San Jose City, Nueva Ecija were recognised as
Good Agricultural Practises (GAP) by the Jollibee Group Foundation, Allied Botanical
Corporation, Department of Agriculture Region III (DA-RFO III), and Bureau of Plant
Industry (BPI).

5. Limited Liability Company (The Philippines has not yet adopted LLC but a domestic
corporation is its local equivalent. The following are domestic corporation and was
incorporated in the Philippines.)
a) San Miguel Corporation – SMC was initially established in the Philippines in 1890 as
a brewery with a single product. Today, SMC holds market-leading companies and
interests in a number of industries, including food and beverage, packaging, energy,
gasoline and oil, infrastructure, cement, real estate, and banking services. SMC has
a portfolio of businesses that are intricately knit into the Philippine economy,
benefiting from and advancing the nation’s development on an economic as well as
social level.

b) Universal Robina Corporation – One of the biggest manufacturers of branded


consumer food and beverage products in the Philippines is Universal Robina
Corporation (URC). The business is well-established and expanding throughout the
ASEAN region. It is one of the industry’s forerunners in the Philippines. Since Mr.
John Gokongwei, Jr. Founded Universal Corn Products Inc., a cornflour
manufacturing facility in Pasig City, in 1954, it has been in operation for more than
50 years. URC is involved in a variety of food-related companies, including the
manufacturing and distribution of branded consumer snack foods and beverages, as
well as the sale of commodities like sugar and wheat as well as hogs, animal feed,
and other related goods, as well as agro-industrial firms. The agro-industrial division
of URC, Robina Agri Partners (RAP), raises pigs and chickens. In addition, it
manufactures and sells soy and glucose products, as well as health and animal
feeds. RAP offers a “total agri-solution" and farm management support service to
local hog farmers with its knowledge and cutting-edge diagnostic capabilities.
