EU_life_long_learning_programme (VIDEO)

Demands on indivual knowledge and skills are continually increasing. Globalization, the
technical revolution and the aging of society are the main challenges in our times.
People’s knowledge, creativity and technical skills form European society’s natural
resources of capital. These are the means to meet upcoming challenges. The ambition
must be to become a leading economy in the knowledge based society. To achieve this,
traditional methods of training and ways of working are being revolutionized. Today,
everyone has to constantly update qualifications to further develop skills on the
personal level to be successful in the labour market. Lifelong learning is a basic
requirement for personal development and economic success, for individuals and for
society as a whole. Contributing to this is a European lifelong learning programme.
Since 2007, the lifelong learning programme brings together a variety of different
schemes that aims to promote educational exchange and education at all stages of life.
Children should have the opportunity to promote their talents and skills as early as
possible. Inclusive education is a more and more relevant concept to tackle different
educational needs. Foreign language skills are especially vital for the Europeans of the
future. Multicultural skills and understanding of the diversity of the European cultures
and languages are essential for our ability to compete on a global stage.
