SUPPORTING OUR BROTHERS IN CHRIST
“In as much as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me” (Matthew
25:40).
Greetings to you in the Name of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ!

Confucius was a philosopher with a life motto – one can live a simple life happily. It is pointless to indulge in sinful
ways and live a life of luxury. If one has enough food and water; a place to rest my head, they can sleep peacefully at night.
Even if with no mattress, blanket or pillow, they can rest with my arms folded behind the head. He indicated that the money
and fame gained by wrongful means disappear like clouds that go away with the wind. History shows that Confucius spend
his life with the underprivileged.

Even today, we see the number of sick and marginalized people are increasing. The Lord wants us to learn the simple life
taught by our Lord Jesus Christ as a secret formula to a balanced life. Let us meditate on what we can do.

1. Let’s Support

“This woman was full of good works and almsdeeds which she did” (Acts 9:36).

Tabitha, is a female disciple who was doing good deeds and acts of kindness in the city of Joppa. She wholeheartedly
supported and brought joy into the lives of the poor. It is only after her death, the seeds of her efforts gave fruit. Even after
death, she lived on in the minds of the people with her acts of kindness, hence bringing glory to the name of our Lord and
Saviour Jesus Christ.

The Bible says, “She sews clothes and makes robes.” She rejoiced in giving to the poor. Let us support the lives of the needy
like Tabitha and live a virtuous life.

The underprivileged are often not supported in society. As a servant of the Lord, let us join hands to wholeheartedly support
them in ways we can that the Name of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ is glorified.

2. Let’s Embrace

“Being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom” (Luke 16:23).

We see two types of people in the book of Luke, Chapter 16, the rich man and Lazarus. The rich man used to enjoy wearing
expensive clothes and feasting every day. But Lazarus lived in poverty, with sores all over his body. In his hunger, Lazarus
seeks help from the rich man. But the expected help was not for him. He passes away from this world and was embraced by
the angel of God in Abraham’s bosom.

Let us not lose any opportunity to hold the underprivileged close and embrace their needs as ours. Let’s do everything in our
power to embrace them and integrate them back into society.

One day, the famous violinist Nicolae Paganini saw an interesting sight. By the roadside, there was a little boy playing a
violin to the best of his ability and seeking alms. On inquiring further about him, Nicolae found out that the little boy was
performing on the streets in the hopes of collecting sufficient funds for treatment for his ailing mother and provide the basic
necessities for his family, his mother, sisters and him. Paganini approached the boy and with his permission, took the violin
and started playing it. The melody of the music attracted huge crowds of people, he put down his own hat and people
contributed generously till it was overflowing. Handing the money over to the boy, he wished him well and went on with his
life, without revealing his identity, and hence acting in good faith for the benefit of the family in need and not for his own
gains. Let us aim to be like Nicolae and not like the rich man in the Bible.

God’s son, our Lord Jesus Christ is deeply concerned about people. He is having a concerned eye and helpful hands towards
the underprivileged. The help we do for the underprivileged brother is what we do for God (Matthew 25:40).

May God bless you all! Mrs. Subala Chandran, VVCF

Church Relation Director
