I’m Dulan Hewavidana and I’m a nursing student.

Nursing is a familiar subject to

me because my mother is a senior nurse and a nursing lecturer and my sister is a
medical student. My father is a police officer. I started my education at Kalutara
National School. I did my G.C.E O/L exam at 2017 and 2018. Then I took my G.C.E
A/L at 2020 and got four credit passes including English language.

My childhood was filled with observations of my mother’s dedication towards her

service. Her true commitment generated a passion in my mind to be a nurse and
help the people. So I continued my higher studies in nursing. So, I did a
foundation program and enrolled to a nursing triple qualification program. While I
was following the nursing program I volunteered to work as a nursing assistant to
gain some realistic experience.

After completing the nursing triple qualification program, I was researching about
the degree pathways to upgrade my knowledge. Unfortunately my G.C.E AL
results are not sufficient to follow a standard nursing degree in Sri Lanka. So I
decided to apply to a foreign university with my existing results. Therefore, I
researched about Canada, USA, England and Australia because I am familiar with
the English language. The approaches of educating undergraduates, premium
training facilities, gaining valuable skills and work experiences during the
internship are the most attractive components caused me to select Australia. So I
chose Deakin-University to pursue my education dream because deakin nursing
bachelor program has ranked 28th in the world. Deakin is recognized for their
entrepreneurship, inventiveness, applied research, and innovation in education
and training.
