FIELD TEST REPORT

Window Air and Water Tightness
Client: Regal Aluminum Windows and Doors Systems Inc. Report No: F21-288-6056
Attention: Mr. Shmuel Balilty Report Date: April 6, 2021
Test Date: April 5, 2021 Page: 1 of 4

1. Project
90 Paisley Blvd West, Mississauga, Ontario
2. Witnesses
The following individuals were present during all or part of testing.
• Abe Balilty, Regal Aluminum Windows and Doors Systems Inc.
• Tyler Thompson, Remy Consulting Engineers Ltd.
• Rafat Shalash, CAN-BEST

3. Window Location
Storage room, east elevation, ground floor, first window from south east corner of the room. The test window
was selected by the client.

4. Window Description
Thermally broken aluminum combination window, 1190 mm wide x 1030 mm high, consisting of:
Width Height Crack Length
Number Type Location
(mm) (mm) (m)
1 Fixed Top row 1100 500 3.2
Total Fixed Crack Length (m): 3.2
1 Horizontal Sliding Bottom row 1110 400 3.42
Total Operable Crack Length (m): 3.42
5. Test Methods
Testing was conducted in accordance with the following test methods:
Air Tightness: ASTM E783-02 “Standard Test Method for Field Measurement of Air Leakage
Through Installed Exterior Windows and Doors”
A pressure differential was applied across the test specimen in an inward direction, and
the airflow required to maintain that differential was measured.

Water Tightness: ASTM E1105-15 “Standard Test Method for Field Determination of Water Penetration
of Installed Exterior Windows, Skylights, Doors, and Curtain Walls, by Uniform or
Cyclic Static Air Pressure Difference”.
(Procedure B, Uniform Cyclic air pressure difference)
A specified pressure differential was applied across the test specimen in an inward
direction, water spray was applied to the exterior at the same time, and the specimen was
checked for leaks.

6. Performance Criteria
Air Tightness: CSA A440-00 A3/Fixed (combined A3 and Fixed ratings)
The maximum rates of air infiltration measured at 75 Pa pressure differential are 0.25 m3/hr per meter of crack
length of the fixed units, and 2.79, 1.65 and 0.55 m3/hr per meter of crack length of the operable units for the
A1, A2 and A3 ratings respectively.
Water Tightness: CSA A440-00 B7 (700 Pa Pressure Differential)
Following application of water spray and the specified pressure differential (4 cycles, each consisting of 5
minutes pressure ON and 1 minute pressure OFF), there shall be:
• no water penetrating the window assembly and cause wetting of the interior room surface;
• no water passing through the window into the wall below the sill; and
• no water remaining trapped in the window assembly after the pressure has been released.
The specified pressure differentials are 150, 200, 300, 400, 500, 600 and 700 Pa for the B1 through B7 ratings
respectively.
7. Test Procedure
Inspection - Prior to testing a visual inspection of the interior and exterior sides of the test area was performed.
No visible deficiencies were observed. System framing was generally level, square and plumb, and all surfaces
were dry.
Test Chamber - An interior flexible test chamber made of 6-mil poly was attached and sealed to the window’s
perimeter. The test chamber did not include the window’s installation joint.
Test Equipment - Testing was carried out using CAN-BEST’s calibrated “Smart-Lab” and a calibrated water
spray rack covering the window area. All pertinent test data were taken manually and logged to the control
computer.
Calibration - Equipment calibration is performed at regular intervals in compliance with our AAMA,
www.aamanet.org and SCC (Standards Council of Canada), www.scc.ca accreditation requirements that are
based on adherence to ISO 17025 Quality Standards.
Air Infiltration Tests – Using the controlled air blower of the Smart-Lab, the test chamber was evacuated to the
required static test pressure differential. Following pressure and airflow stabilization, the total air flow was
recorded.
Water Penetration Tests – Using the controlled air blower of the Smart-Lab the test chamber was evacuated to
the required static test pressure differential for the duration specified, while simultaneously spraying water on
the exterior face of the test area using a calibrated water spray rack. The spray rack is calibrated to deliver
uniform water spray at the required rate of 5 gph/ft2. If the test area exceeded the coverage of the spray rack,
the area was sectioned, and the sections tested consecutively starting with the lower section(s).
During testing, the interior face of the test area was inspected for signs of water penetration.

8. Environmental Test Conditions

Outdoor Temperature 5°C Indoor Temperature 20°C
Outdoor Relative Humidity 41% Indoor Relative Humidity 50%

9. Performed Modifications
The following modifications were observed immediately prior to testing in order to attain the reported results:
• A needle bead of flexible sealant was applied to the window inner face around the sill perimeter.
• The interior frame joints surface were sealed with flexible sealant.
• The exterior frame joints surface were sealed with flexible sealant.

10. Test Results
