DAY 1
Objectives:
The students should be able to:
1. Watch a movie clip about Kyoto.
2. Write a paragraph about their dream destination.
 Ask the student to think of one dream destination. Ask them three things that they want to do there.
Write them in the list in Unblock p. 3.

_______________, and ______________________.

3. Identify the places, songs, and art pieces that struck them most as they listened to and see Kyoto.
4. Answer a word puzzle about words.

DAY 2
Objectives:
The students should be able to:

1. Introduction of the essential questions;
EQ1: How does one’s identity relate to his culture?
EQ2: How are new words formed?
2. Reading of a diary “Kyoto in My Kind”.
3. Answer questions to clarify understanding before, during, and after reading.
4. After reading the diary, the students will answer the following questions:
 Was the writer interested to see Kyoto? Why?
 How did the writer and her friend go to Kyoto?
 What makes Kyoto exciting?
 How do the Japanese show their hospitality through the cuisine?
 What makes the temples interesting?
 How did the writer describe the Gion District?
 What makes the travel diary informative?
 Are there similarities between Filipino and Japanese hospitality?
5. Discuss the last two questions and compare the cultures of Filipinos and Japanese.

DAY 3:
Objectives:
The students should be able to:

Types of Word Formation
a) Blending –This technique joins two words together to create a new word whose meaning is a
combination of both words
b) Clipping – this is done by removing the first or last part of the word. The shortened word has
the same meaning as the original word.
c) Compounding – two words combined to form one word
1. Identify the word formation taken from the diary
2. Identify the word formation, such as blending, clipping, and compounding.
3. Answer the travel dictionary in Activate p. 8. And answer the exercise orally as they check their own work.
