Gas Boot & Oil Storage Tank

1.What is the use of degassing boot?

To remove all gas from oil and reduce pressure.

2. What are the safety device in degassing boat?

Psv, PS, LS, Rupture disc, F&G, ESDV inlet, ESD push button.

3. How much pressure are you maintaining degassing boot?

1 bar (or) atmospheric pressure.

4. What is the set point of rupture disc and its function?

 The setpoint of Rapture Disc is 1 to 1.5 bar.
 It is one time use only.
 The main function is to protect the gas boot.

5. What is inside the gas boot?

Baffle plate.

6. What is Oil storage tank?

It is used to store net oil for exporting.

7. How many tanks do you have?

Receiving, settling and exporting.

8. Which type of wolf do you use in oil storage tank?

Gatevalve as MOV.

9. How do you remove all water in storage tanks?

We remove all the water from the bottom of the tank through bottom drain from settling tank.

10. What are the safety device in your oil storage tank?
Breather, hatch, PSV, F&G, All isolation valves,LSHH,Nitrogen blanketing, foam system
and deluge system.

11. Why are you using form extinguisher for oil storage tank?
It is a class B fire.

12. What will happen if level high high switch is activated?

The inlet ESDV will get drip and cut the inlet source.

13. What will happen if level switch low low is activated?

It will drip the export pump.

14. What is the use of nitrogen in oil storage tank?

Nitrogen is used for blanketing to maintain positive pressure in the tank to avoid buckling.

15. What is the setpoint of PSV and hatch?

PSV- 2 Kpa
Hatch- 2.5 Kpa
16. How much pressure do you maintain in oil storage tank?
0.5-1.5 Kpa

17. What will happen if the pressure in oil storage tank is low?

The tank will get buckling or collapse.

18. What is the setpoint of nitrogen blanketing?

Nitrogen blanketting PCV opens at 0.5 Kpa and close at 1.5 Kpa.

19. Why are you using MOV in oil storage inlet and outlet?
All the valves are big and hard to operate, so we are using MOV for easy operations. These
valves are opened by control room also.

20. How do you check the crude oil storage tank level?
Dip level gauge.

21. Why are you using scarify anode in oil storage tank?
It is used to protect the storage tank(internal and externally) Scarify anode used for cathodic
protection in side the storage tank.

22. How do you check the water quantity in oil storage tank?
By opening & checking the sample point traycock.

23. As a operator, what is normal routine in oil storage tank?

 Proper hand over
 To read log book.
 Site patrol.
 To monitor the parameters reading.
 To take sample point.
 To check the chemical system.
 To check all status of valves.
 To follow the control room operator instructions.
 To measure the tank level by dip level gauge.

24. What is off spec tank?

More than 0.05% water content in oil export line will analyze by the water cut analyzer and
diverted to the offspec tank.

25. How much Bs&W is allowable in export oil?

0.05% Bs&W.
