5. INTRODUCTION

This method statement outlines the professional approach and detailed process for the installation of
noraplan® floor coverings. Proper installation is essential to ensure longevity, performance, and safety in
commercial and residential spaces.

6. PRE-INSTALLATION PREPARATION

6.1. Required Tools for Seam Cutting

Ensure that the following tools, necessary for the seam cutting process, shall be available:

• A Nora seam cutter shall be used for cutting and

trimming noraplan® floor coverings.
• If needed, a Railcut may be used as an alternative tool
to ensure precise cuts in the floor coverings.

• A hooked blade shall be used for detaching half-cut strips during the installation process.

6.2. Required Tools for Installation

The installer shall gather the necessary tools for a professional installation process, including:

• Trowels shall be used for adhesive application.

• A serrated blade shall be used to properly apply
adhesive as recommended.
• A measuring tape shall be used for accurate
measurements during the installation.
• Adhesive tape shall be used to ensure proper alignment
and straight adhesive lines.
• A vacuum cleaner shall be used for cleaning the subfloor
and back of the floor coverings prior to installation.

6.3. Proper Storage of Material

The noraplan® floor coverings rolls shall be stored in an upright position to prevent deformation and maintain their
original integrity. This storage method ensures their optimal condition until installation.

7. SUBFLOOR REQUIREMENTS

• Ensure that the subfloor meets the necessary requirements for successful installation:
• Subfloor readiness: The subfloor should meet country-specific standards, including cleanliness, smoothness,
and flatness.
• Minimum temperature: Maintain a subfloor temperature of at least 15°C during the installation process.

8. INSTALLATION PROCESS

8.1. Installation Method

The recommended installation method for noraplan® floor coverings shall be followed:

• Broadloom fashion: The noraplan® tiles shall be installed in a broadloom pattern for the best aesthetic and
performance results.
• Optional methods: If applicable, nora® nTx or nora dryfix™ ed may be considered for quicker installation. The
corresponding installation recommendations shall be referred to for detailed instructions.
8.2. Seam Cutting

To achieve precise and seamless installation, the following steps shall be followed for seam cutting:

 8.2.1 Measurement and Alignment of Sheets

• The width of the sheet shall be measured and ensured that it does not exceed the maximum specified width
(1.22 m for most noraplan® variants, 1.20 m for noraplan® ultra grip). The factory-cut edge shall be aligned
with the uncut edge for an accurate fit.

 8.2.2 Cutting Process

• The factory-cut edge alongside a steel straight edge shall be straightened using a nora® seam cutter or a
railcut (such as Wolff). The straight edge shall be kept approximately 1 cm off the factory-cut edge. This shall
slightly slit the sheet underneath, ensuring a clean cut.

• In practice, it's best to detach the half-cut strip using a hooked blade. The underlying edge after embedding the
noraplan® floor covering shall be avoided as this could compress the seam and affect the performance and
appearance of the flooring.

• The arrows on the back of the noraplan® floor covering shall still be aligned and pointing in the same direction
after the cutting process.

 8.2.3 Sheet Overlap

• When unrolling noraplan® floor coverings, the sheets shall be overlapped as necessary and aligning the
factory-cut edge with the uncut edge.

8.3. Preparation before Adhesive Application

• After seam cutting, half of the sheets shall be folded back. The subfloor and the back of the floor covering shall
be vacuum cleaned.

• To avoid a visible adhesive line in the sheet, adhesive tape shall be applied in the area where the sheets are
folded back. The adhesive shall be spread onto this tape, and the tape shall be removed while the adhesive is
still fresh. This shall ensure a straight adhesive line.

• Acrylic adhesives shall be used as suitable adhesives for noraplan® floor coverings. The serrated blade
recommended by the manufacturer shall be used to apply the adhesive, and nora® AC 100* is recommended
for adhesive application.

8.4. Adhesive Application and Sheet Placement

• The noraplan sheets shall be moved approximately 10-20 cm into the fresh adhesive to avoid an adhesive line.

• The required airing time shall depend on the temperature, humidity, and absorbency of the subfloor. It shall be
ensured that the adhesive's open time is not exceeded. The adhesive transfer to the back of the floor covering
shall be checked carefully. Additional information provided by the adhesive manufacturer shall be observed.

• When embedding the floor covering, the entire back of the floor covering shall be completely covered with
adhesive. Flooring edges shall be positioned without applying pressure. Under no circumstances should they
be pressed or crushed. If joints are to be sealed, the joint width shall not exceed 0.3 mm.

• Any adhesive residues on the surface of the flooring shall be removed immediately with nora® liquid wax.
• During the installation and bonding of the adhesive, noraplan® floor coverings shall be protected against
extreme heat or temperature fluctuations caused by direct sunlight or glazed elements reaching down to the
floor.
• Except for noraplan® ed and noraplan® ec, the seams of the flooring may be sealed with nora® hot welding
rod, following the processing recommendation for "Joint sealing". This sealing process shall be carried out 24
hours after installation at the earliest.

9. PRESSING AND RUBBING

• The floor covering shall be carefully rubbed on its entire surface into place, for instance, with a cork board. It
shall then be pressed down into position both longitudinally and transversely with a heavy iron roller
(approximately 50 kg). If acrylic adhesives are used, this procedure shall be repeated after a while (depending
on the temperature), particularly at the ends and seams.

• By following these revised instructions, a clean and accurate seam cut, proper adhesive application, and
effective placement of noraplan® floor coverings shall be achieved.

• The noraplan® floor covering will be fully serviceable only 72 hours after installation.
• Wet or damp cleaning of the floor covering shall only be carried out after the adhesive has fully bonded, which
typically occurs after approximately 48 hours.
• In entrance areas with heavy traffic, shall install door mats or similar measures of sufficient size.

10. QUALITY CONTROL

• Verification of the Quality documents/Performance Certificate, Technical data sheet received from the
Manufacturer shall be done.
• A visual inspection shall be conducted to ensure that the installed noraplan® floor coverings are free from any
visible defects, such as cuts, tears, or uneven seams. Any issues shall be identified and shall be addressed
and corrected before completing the installation.

• The seams of the noraplan® floor coverings shall be inspected to ensure proper alignment and secure
bonding. The seams shall be checked for any gaps, bumps, or unevenness. If any issues are found, they shall
be repaired or reinstalled as necessary.

• The adhesive used shall be verified to have properly bonded the floor covering to the subfloor. The adhesive
lines shall be inspected to ensure they are continuous and evenly applied. Any areas with weak adhesion or
gaps shall be addressed and repaired.

• The flatness of the installed noraplan® floor coverings shall be checked to ensure a smooth and even surface.
A straight edge or level shall be used to identify any raised or uneven areas. These areas shall be corrected to
achieve a satisfactory installation.

• Detailed records of the installation process shall be maintained, including the types of adhesive used, curing
times, and any deviations from the recommended procedures. This documentation shall serve as a reference
for future maintenance and warranty purposes.

• By implementing these quality control measures, the installed noraplan® floor coverings shall meet the
required standards, providing a durable and visually appealing flooring solution
