Narrative Report on Summer Reading Camp
SY 2022-2023

In line with the advocacy of MBHTE BARMM, which is the 5Bs Program, Port Area Elementary School
conducted a Summer Reading Camp in which the teachers from the said school are extending their
help to those identified pupils who are struggling in reading, during summer vacation.

This year, reading program started on July 31 and ended on August 4, 2023. It lasted for five days
and the classes held in the morning and in the afternoon.

Concerning about the said program, some teachers of Port Area ES committed to render their
services during vacation days for the benefit of their learners. They prepared a lot of activities and
used different teaching strategies specifically on reading.

During the activity, pupils were divided according to their reading ability and there were assigned
teacher for each activity. Some of the activities were taken are:

 Identifying sounds and name of the letters

 Teaching Marungko Method
 Syllabicating words
 Reading CVC pattern
 Blending of consonant
 Word Recognition
 Reading Phrases/ Sentences/Paragraph /short stories

With regards to the activities being done, we can see that the learners were having fun, they were
very participative and they gained confidence on themselves.

As the Summer Reading Camp ended, we can say that this program is effective. Within the duration
of five days we can conclude that the reading skill of every child have developed.
