What

During the Feria de Málaga, there are 3 magical moments:

● The pilgrimage to the church of Santa Maria de la Victoria (real name: Basílica, Real
Santuario y Parroquia de Santa María de la Victoria y de la Merced). The church
was built where Fernando II of Aragon had set up camp during the siege of Málaga
during the “reconquista”. For this reason, it is called “The Virgin of Victory”. The
procession takes place every first Saturday of the Feria.
● Inauguration of the spectacular lighting of the Real’s façade
● The historical parade, which takes place on Sunday at the end of the Feria. It starts
in Plaza de la Aduana and ends in Calle Alcazabilla. This parade retraces the entry
of the Catholic Kings into Malaga during the Reconquest.

Where

Feria Malaga is celebrated in two distinct locations. During the daytime, the festivities take place
in the city center and last until 6:00 pm. As the evening approaches, the party shifts to the
fairground located in Recinto Ferial, where it continues from 9:00 pm until dawn.

When

In Malaga, the festivities officially begin on Saturday August 15th and end the following
Saturday, August 22nd.

History/Origin
The Feria celebrations date back to 1487, when Los Reyes Católicos, Isabella and Ferdinand
re-conquered the city. Over time, it has evolved into a huge event and it has two distinct facets –
day and night. ‘La Feria de día’ warms up around midday. Restaurant and bars are full and spill
over into the street. Bands play free concerts in the little squares of the city centre. Head for
Calle Larios and follow the crowds. This Feria de dia officially finishes at 18.00 hrs This
finishing time is earlier than some years ago and is now strictly observed by bars who turn off
the music. The feria goers and in particular the younger prefer to hang around and finish their
drinks. The street cleaners and their hose pipes arrive in force and mark the real end to the
Feria de dia.

Flamenco
Flamenco is the traditional dance and music genre in spain. Flamenco was found in Andalusia
and dates back all the way to the 14th century.
