Report on communication

Communication is the foundation of people’s everyday lives. The exchange of information between
people has become a very fast process nowadays. We no longer need to send paper letters or to
arrange date and time of the next meeting with a person. It is only a matter of one tap on your
mobile device to get in touch with your friends or family.
In a discussion that took place during the English lecture, I have noticed that I communicate in very
similar ways like my colleagues. The majority of students said that they send text messages through
their mobile network services or through social media. Some of them do phone calls too, but not as
often. Although no matter how convenient mobile communication is, some of the students said that
it is important for them to have face to face social interactions. Also a group of students remarked
that ways of communication differ between generations. It was noticed that the older generation do
phone calls more often than text.
As I compared the information discussed in the lecture and global statistics, I have concluded that
communication through mobile services or internet is even more popular than I expected. I have
discoverd that ninety percent of the world population own a mobile device of which eighty five
percent are smart phones. That sums up to 7.33 billion mobile devices worldwide. I was even more
amazed by the number of global mobile connections which exceeds the number of global
population by three billion.
