PRODUCT BULLETIN

ID-HEC
ID-HEC hydroxyl ethyl cellulose (HEC) is a nonionic, high-viscosity, water-soluble polymer. Chemically, it is
cellulose that has been etherified to give solubility in water. It is provided as a white to light tan, free-flowing
powder.

Typical Physical Properties

Physical appearance White-to-cream powder

Specific gravity ~1.40
pH (1% solution) 6.5 – 8.5
Solubility in water Dispersible

Application

The principal use of ID-HEC viscosifier is the attainment of viscosity drilling, completion and work over fluids.
Fluids viscosified with this product will exhibit high apparent viscosity, high yield points and low fragile
strengths. Therefore, in those situations where prolonged suspension properties are required, incorporation of
ID-VIS Viscosifier is recommended.
ID-HEC Viscosifier has been specially modified so that it can be mixed rapidly via a hopper at a rate of 10 Min
per sack without forming lumps.
Concentrations of 1.0 to 1.5 lb/bbl (2.9 to 4.3 kg/m³) are required for desired properties in circulating systems.

Advantages

• A high-viscosity grade of hydroxyl ethyl cellulose (HEC).

• A multi-purpose viscosifying agent for use in freshwater, sea-water and complex brine systems.
• Widely recognized as being the least damaging viscosifier for clear brines.
• As ID-HEC is non-ionic, its viscosifying characteristics are unaffected by common contaminants or
dissolved salts.

Toxicity and Handling

Handle as an Industrial chemical, wearing protective equipment and observing the precautions as described in
the Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS).

Packing
ID-HEC is packaged in a 25 kg multi wall paper bag with PE liner palletized wrapped & strapped.
