What is the statement of the problem?

- The study aims to investigate the scouring problem at the Pagsabangan Bridge
in Tagum City, Philippines, and provide a mitigation plan to address the issue.
The study also aims to determine the causes and parameters of scouring at the
bridge site and use GIS-based technology to capture, coordinate, process,
interpret, and simulate data related to the scouring problem.

What is the main point of the study?

- The main point of the study is to investigate the scouring problem at the
Pagsabangan Bridge in Tagum City, Philippines, and provide a mitigation plan to
address the issue. The study aims to determine the causes and parameters of
scouring at the bridge site and use GIS-based technology to capture, coordinate,
process, interpret, and simulate data related to the scouring problem. The study
also employs hydrologic and hydraulic analysis to obtain significant data and
proposes the use of Concrete Revetment with Sheet Pile as a mitigation
measure for the bridge site. The study aims to minimize casualties and avoid
road accidents and benefit the citizens of Tagum City, the local government, civil
engineers, Saint Mary's College of Tagum, and future investigators and
researchers.

What is the return period?

- The return period is an estimate of how long it will be between rainfall events of a
given magnitude.

Why did you use 400 meters?

- We divided the upstream and downstream. 200 meters upstream and
downstream because the longer the distance, the more accurate the cross-
sectional area is.

What is our mitigation plan?

- Scouring during normal water level is 1.09 m while during flood, there is 3.59 m
scouring. In conclusion, we arrived with the concrete revetment with a foundation
of sheet pile as per recommended by Department Order 100 Series No. 20 by
the Department of Public Works and Highways.

How did you get the cross-sectional area?

- The data were provided by the DPWH. What we did is that we are the ones who
plotted the coordinates to generate the required data input for the HEC-RAS
software.

What station is the bridge located?

- Station where the bridge lies: Within the 200 and 160 m.
Why did you choose 190 m?
- From the river station 200, we just estimated the 190 meters taking into
consideration the width of the bridge that is estimated to be as 10-15m.
-
How did you arrive with your stations?
- We divided the 400 meters into 40 to get to the stations.

What are the needed data for the Hydraulic Analysis using HEC-RAS?
- Peak Flow Discharge, Flood Analysis Discharge, Cross-sectional Coordinates,
and Manning’s Value.

What did you use as a value of Manning’s?

What is the Thesis Statement?

- Hydraulic and Hydrologic Analysis can be used to compute bridge scouring.

What is the difference of your study to the existing studies?

- It has not been conducted yet.
