Literacy Report - Palanit Elementary School - English and Filipino Subjects

Introduction:

This report presents the results of the Palanit Elementary School students' performance in the English and Filipino
subjects based on the Philippine Informal Reading Inventory (PHIL-IRI) Test. The test was conducted twice during
the academic year: once in September and again in March. The purpose of the test is to assess the students' reading
abilities in both languages and identify areas for improvement.

Grade Levels: Grade 3, Grade 4, Grade 5, and Grade 6

Test Periods: September (pre-test) and March (post-test)

READING LEVEL: Frustration, Instructional and Independent

Analysis and Observations:

Grade 3 Performance:

Both male and female students in Grade 3 showed improvements in their reading abilities in both English and
Filipino, as evident from the increase in the "14 Above" scores and the decrease in "Below 14" scores.

There was a significant number of Grade 3 students who fell under the "Frustrated Reader" category in both
languages. This indicates the need for targeted interventions to support their reading development.

Grade 4 Performance:

Grade 4 students demonstrated progress in their reading abilities in both English and Filipino, as indicated by the
increase in the "14 Above" scores and a decrease in "Below 14" scores.

However, there were some students in Grade 4 who still fell under the "Frustrated Reader" category, suggesting the
need for additional support and targeted interventions.

Grade 5 Performance:

Grade 5 students showed improvement in both English and Filipino reading abilities, with a decrease in "Below 14"
scores and an increase in "14 Above" scores.

The number of students categorized as "Frustrated Readers" decreased, but there is still room for improvement.

Grade 6 Performance:

Both male and female students in Grade 6 demonstrated progress in their reading abilities in both English and
Filipino.

While the majority of students reached the "Instructional Reader" level, some still remained in the "Frustrated
Reader" category, indicating the need for continued support and targeted interventions.

GRADE 3,4,5 AND 6 PERFORMANCE

Filipino: Frustration level (Pretest) 152 --- Post test 17

English : Frustration level (Pretest Grade 4,5, and 6) 117 --- Post test 39

ANALYSIS:

GRADE 3,4,5 AND 6 :Majority of the students reached the instructional level or showed improvement from
frustration level to instructional level, although there were still significant number of students remained in
frustration level that needs further targeted reading intervention and monitoring.

INDEPENDENT READERS: Number of independent readers in Grades 3, 4, 5 and 6 increased from 62 during the
pretest in September 2022 to 146 in march 2023 or post test. And consistent with the zero Non- Reader reported.
Conclusion:

The Palanit Elementary School students have shown overall improvement in their reading abilities in both English
and Filipino languages based on the PHIL-IRI Test conducted in September and March. However, there is still room
for improvement, especially for students classified as "Frustrated Readers." By implementing targeted interventions,
encouraging a reading culture, and involving parents in the process, the school can continue to support students'
language development and reading skills.

karanasan at kaalaman.
