Background of the Study
Mathematics is the science of patterns and the study of numbers, quantities, and shapes, using
deductive reasoning and formal logic," as described by the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics.
This definition provides a concise overview of mathematics and its core components. (National Council
of Teachers of Mathematics, "Mathematics: A Human Endeavor," 2020). Mathematics education plays a
crucial role in shaping students' critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Evaluating student’s
performance in mathematics provides valuable insights into their understanding of mathematical concepts
and their ability to apply them effectively. In Bilad High School, evaluating students’ mathematics
performance is essential to identify areas of improvement, adapt instructional strategies, and enhance the
overall quality of education. This study aims to analyze the performance of students from grade 10 on a 1-
30 Mathematics Quiz covering the 1st 2nd and 3rd Quarter during the academic year 2022-2023.

By conducting an in-depth assessment of students’ performance on the 1-30 Mathematics Quiz,


educators can comprehensively understand the strengths and weaknesses within the quarters. The results
of this study will provide a basis for developing targeted interventions and educational strategies to
address the specific needs of students. Furthermore, the findings will contribute to curriculum refinement,
ensuring that students in grade 10 effectively cover and understand mathematical concepts.

The performance analysis will involve administering the 1-30 Mathematics Quiz to a
representative sample of students from grade 10 in Bilad High School. The quiz will consist of questions
that assess various mathematical skills, including numerical operations, algebraic thinking, geometry, and
problem-solving. By using a stratified random sampling method, the study will ensure that participants
are selected in a way that represents the entire student population of Bilad High School.

Statement of the Problem

This study aims for the Performance on the 1 - 30 Mathematics quiz of Grade 10 in Bilad
High School Extension School Year 2022 - 2023. In detail, it intends to answer the following
questions;

1. What is the hardest quarter that the grade 10 students in Bilad High School
Extension School Year 2022-2023 experienced in Mathematics Quiz?

2. What are the implications for the students in the Grade 10 level in Bilad High
School Extension School Year 2022 - 2023 in Mathematics Quiz?
Significance of the Study

This research can provide a comprehensive information/idea about Mathematics subjects


in different quarters in grade 10, regarding the topic this study will benefit the following
individuals:

To the Learners, this can be a guide for them in preparing for the next quarter of being a
grade 10 student. It can also help them to understand easier the math subject. To the Teachers,
this will help the teachers be more knowledgeable about the struggles of the learners in math at
different quarters of grade 10. To the Future Researchers, this study can help them to have some
knowledge about the contrasting difficulty levels of mathematics subjects in different quarters.
This also may help to use as their preference and basis for their research.

Methodology

Data collection involves administering the 1-30 Mathematics Quiz to the selected
participants in the school, supervised by teachers or researchers. The quiz comprises questions
that cover various mathematical concepts and problem-solving skills. The collected data are
subjected to comprehensive statistical analysis using descriptive statistics, such as mean scores,
standard deviation, and frequency distribution, to summarize the performance of students within
each grade level.

A. A stratified random sampling method will be employed to select participants from each
grade level in Bilad High School. Stratification ensures that students from different grade
levels are represented proportionally in the sample. The total sample size will depend on
the number of students in each grade level, aiming to achieve a representative sample.

B. The respondents are the students from grade 10 of STE Bilad Highschool S.Y. 2022-
2023.

C. Data will be gathered by giving the 1-30 Mathematics Quiz to a representative sample of
students in order to evaluate how well each grade level at Bilad High School performed on
it during the academic year 2022–2023. The sample will be chosen using a stratified
random sampling technique to guarantee proportional representation from each grade
level.
