Bronte Festival
Thank you to Bronte Friends for organising such a wonderful event last weekend.

The stalls were stacked, the stage was prepped, the BBQ smoked, the Indian food was all eaten,
and the rain……...held off!

A HUGE well done to all the children who performed on stage, and thank you to all the staff and
parents who baked cakes (lots of them), cooked food, helped on stalls and spent their Father’s
Day with us at Cobham Hall. It really couldn’t have happened without you all.

Bronte Friends are pleased to announce that a little over £4,600 was raised during this event. The
money raised during our Festival, and other Bronte Friends events, go towards treats and
opportunities for all children at school.

A flyer detailing the many things that Bronte Friends provide will be sent out soon, and further information
will be available at the Bronte Friends AGM next term (Thursday 12th October at 2.30pm in the School Hall).

Shadow investigation – Mrs Durkin

As part of our LIGHT topic in science, Year 3 chose the perfect sunny day to explore
shadows.

‘Would our shadows change in any way throughout the day?’ was the key question.

We ventured out to the playground four times during the day to draw, measure and record
the lengths of our shadows.

We discovered that our shadows actually DO change shape, length and direction.

Being a class of budding scientists, the children generated endless questions wanting to
know more and more about the connection between the Sun and planet Earth. They were
fascinated by the fact that from one birthday to the next, they revolve once around the
Sun!

Reception class explored different colours, making a tally mark for each
car that drove past Bronte School. Black and white cars were very
popular (not black & white cars, but black cars….and white cars!)

Year 1 Class Assembly

This week Year 1 performed a super space-themed assembly to parents

and the rest of the school.

The children shared fascinating facts about the planets in our solar
system, famous astronauts and the moon landing. Their confidence
shone brightly as they delivered their lines clearly, sang captivating songs
and showcased their wonderful learning about Space. Well done Year 1
for a fantastic performance. We are very proud of you!

The Maxwell Prize

Year 6 have had many opportunities to shine
and explore their leadership potential over
the course of the academic year. Examples
included being Play Leaders, Reading Gurus
and Digital Leaders to name but a few. Over
the course of the year, the pupils highlighted
their achievements by completing our Year 6
Leadership Accreditation admirably.
Following this, we had the unenviable task of choosing one pupil to enter into
the Maxwell Prize competition. The prize is non-academic and rewards a
holistic approach to school and community life. The Maxwell Prize celebrates
the achievements of Year 6 children in education at the schools of ISA
Members.

After much deliberation, we decided to enter Annabel, our current Head Girl.
Annabel has a wonderful attitude and is at the forefront of all that we do at
Bronte. She regularly helps and guides her school community as a member of
Pupil Parliament and through her various other roles including being a Play
Leader. Annabel has a wide skill set and more importantly real determination.
She is a wonderful artist, a fantastic vocalist and keen sportswoman. We are
delighted to share that Annabel is being recognised for her endeavours and
engagement by being included on the ISA honour board for the Maxwell Prize
alongside a few select children up and down the length and breadth of the
country. Well done Annabel, we are very proud of you!
Year 6 Theatre Trip

This week, as our oldest children begin to mark the end of their time at Bronte, they were lucky
enough to enjoy a fantastic day trip to London.

After a brief stop to enjoy the sunshine at Embankment Gardens they headed to Bill's Restaurant
in the heart of the West End where they tucked into a delicious celebratory lunch. After that
they headed off to a show….....but which one? Following much speculation it was revealed that
this year they were to see The Lion King and they excitedly headed off to the Lyceum where they
spent the afternoon enthralled by this spectacular show.

Mrs Lonergan, Mrs Botley and Mrs Mason were very proud of the children, their behaviour was
exemplary (and commented on by staff and other theatre goers).

Many thanks to Bronte friends for their generosity in funding such a memorable trip.
