Philosophy of Education

Jasmine Jacklovich

Ever since I can remember my heart has been set on becoming a teacher. Through that there have
been multiple people, and situations that have contributed to that along the way, mainly my teachers I had
have made an impact on my education, and overall, my love for this career, my AVID teachers along the
way, Cody Christie, and Mary Anderson, along with my high school stem/internship teacher Susan Duffy.
The ways they have shown their career, and their beliefs have grown an effect on me, and the way I
believe today. I have felt progressively more called to the education profession through the years.

I believe that the role of an educator is to provide many things but most importantly, a warm,
inviting, positive learning environment. One that encourages growth and provides for the students. One of
the most important things that a teacher owes to their student is showing up for them daily. Being there
and having a great attitude will go a long way. Having a smile and a great attitude can carry that through
your students. While being a consistent face to your students will also go in a way that some might not
see on a day-to-day basis other than at school. Another thing that an educator owes their students is to
continue their own education. While improving yourself, learning new things, and expanding your
knowledge will not only have a positive effect on the educator but also the classroom which will allow
the students to grow in profound ways.

One of the many goals I have for my future students is for them to feel safe and heard. That
feeling can come from building a community and overall respect for them and their peers, along with
myself. Another goal I have for my students is for them to be active participants in their learning. That
can be shown in many ways and many of which I want to have in my classroom. I want my students to
have a choice, I want my students to have the best environment for them, I want my students to be able to
learn about what is interesting for them, and I want them to learn in the best way for each of them. I will
continue to advocate for choice in a classroom, whether that looks like having a choice on which direction
they take the assignment in, which book they choose to read, where they choose to sit, and the list can go
on. I want them to be able to have the best environment for them and the right fit for them to soak in the
knowledge. I will provide all types of learning styles, visual, auditory, kinesthetic, and reading/writing to
best serve each individual. I will also want my students to be rigorous, which means I will continue to
challenge my students to think, perform, and grow to a level that they were not at previously.

Overall, I want my students to know I am here to serve them and their needs. I am here to guide
them into the best version of themselves and help them learn and develop new skills. I am here to
challenge them in ways they may not have thought of before and allow choice in my classroom. While
teaching and educating, we all must remember; children must be placed first in the educational process.
