The Benefits of Small Class sizes

The idea of small class sizes has become a big topic in education, over

the past decade. Teachers and Parents have realized the significance

of smaller class sizes in the education system. With classes of fewer

then 20 students, studies show a enormous impact on the students’

academic achievement.

There is substantial evidence that classes with 20 or more students

have a positive influence on student participation and learning. These

students tend to have more one on one interactions with the teacher,

and can be provided assistance when needed. This causes them to

become interested in the course material and be more motivated to

learn. It also allows teachers to use a different teaching style to each

students specific needs. Educators can coordinate assignments to

each student and allow them to practice skills they find difficult.

Students in smaller classes are more likely to engage in classroom

discussions. As the size of the class decreases, the students are less

distracted and feel comfortable to express their own ideas without

criticism from their peers.

The National Education Association noted that classes with fewer than

20 students score higher than those in larger classes in reading,

writing and math. Students can learn successful habits and skills both

academically and personally.

Small class sizes allow students to receive a more personalized

education.

Educators are better able to plan lessons that can cater to each

students needs academically. This creates an increase in each

students’ academic proformence, because they receive individualized

support and teaching interaction. Additionally, small classes aid in

communication between students and educators, due to teachers

having more time to provide individualized support and feedback.

Small class sizes can also make a psychological difference as well.

Students in these classes are found to experience less stress, as a

result of having less of a workload the individualized attention

available to them.
These types of classes are known to decrease anxiety levels and

depression. They can also help students to have higher self-esteem

and confidence and are more likely to for positive relationships with

classmates and educators.

In conclusion, The importance of small classes in the education

system is the positive influence on students achievement and

behavior, their interaction with educators and their psychological well-

being. Prioritizing small class sizes would ensure each student can get

the best quality education. These students have better outcomes,

academically, socially and psychological, ensuring they are prepared

to build a better future.
