Lesson Idea

I will have my own students create their own story of how a seed grows. I will make sure the
students remember the goals for the assignment by writing them on the board. This lesson
will be done in pairs to make it easier on them and me. They will use Powerpoint to create a
presentation. The presentation can just be two slides where they have a title page and then
tell the whole story on the second slide. They can draw out the steps and upload the pictures
in the presentation. As they are drawing, I will remind them to label the parts of the plant. I
will also be helping them in uploading the pictures into their presentations. I will give them
the option of either writing their story underneath their drawing or voice record on the slide.
I will provide feedback such making sure they include specific terms in either their writing or
audio recording. I will conclude the lesson by asking the student what they liked and didn’t
like about the activity and then as a few to read or play their story out loud if they volunteer
to.

Managing the technology/engagement: Describe a way to use this technology in a way that
gets students actively involved in authentic tasks and contexts? How will you manage the
classroom behaviors on the technology:
My students will create their story plans in pairs on paper before getting on the computer. I
will give them 15 minutes for this. I will remind them of the terminology they need to use
in their story and what needs to be labeled.

Universal Design for Learning (UDL):

I allow my students to represent and express their learning in a few different ways. They can
either write out what they learn, or voice record their-self over the slide. My students are
engaged because they have to work with a partner to come up with a story on what a seed
needs to grow into a plant.

Reflecting on enhanced learning:

I feel this lesson would get my students really engaged as they several options for how they
want to do things. I look most forward to seeing their stories they create.
