Detailed guidance for the preparation of your final report is given in the Handbook
which can be found on the homepage of this module.

The outline of your dissertation is given by your contents page through the titles of
every chapter and sub section. This gives your work a proper structure and you will
gain a clear overview of the logic and direction of your project.

The criteria for the final written report are as follows:

A word count of 12000-15,000 from page 1 of the introduction to the final


page of the conclusions;
Arial Font size 11 and 1.5 spacing;
Text justified;
Chapter headings Arial Bold 14;
Section headings Arial Bold 12.

Note that hard copies are not required for submission.

Criteria Ratings Pts

Abstract:
Summarise your report in around 300 words. The abstract should be written in such a way that 5 pts
it could be understood by someone with a reasonable level of subject specific knowledge.

Introduction:
This should provide a succinctly written overview on the chosen topic, which allows seeing why
10 pts
this research is novel and relevant to industry, and includes clearly laid out research aims and
objectives.

Literature review:
Coherently argued and properly referenced literature review, presenting critical analysis of 15 pts
published information.

Research methods:
Clearly defines the research approaches used, including (as appropriate) the theory utilised,
20 pts
sources of data, numerical code, analysis techniques, assumptions made and any other
relevant information (e.g. safety and ethics).

Results and discussion:


Present the key results of your project in their final formats and explain what they mean and
30 pts
discuss the findings in relation to the research aim, the wider literature and industry at large.
Reflect on your investigation, including the reliability and quality/quantity of your data.

Summary, conclusion and limitations:


Provide a succinctly written summary of your project, including conclusions, limitations of the 10 pts
investigation and suggestions for further work.

Presentation:
Professional presentation; clear text in good English; high quality tables and original figures 10 pts
including drawings, graphs and photographs as appropriate.
