Inquiry In Context

01. Test for Starch

- When carrying out an experiment we need to follow few simple

rules for our safety and for the reliability of the experiment.

1. Hypothesis (Prediction)

 I think the food items that contain starch or carbohydrates will

turn blue-black.

2. Planning

 We will need the following:

 Iodine Solution
 Dropping pipette
 Food samples
 Spotting White tile (To see the color changes
clearly)

3. Method

 Take a few food samples and place them on a spotting tile.

 Dip the pipette in a small sample of iodine solution and place a
drop on each food sample.
 The samples that contain starch will turn blue-black.
 The samples that contain a little amount of starch slowly changes
the color or it would be a little lighter than the original blue-black
color.
 The samples that did not contain starch at all remained brown
(iodine’s original color)

4. Data analyzing

 Once the experiment is completed, we will collect all the results

and tabulate them.
 This is done to come to a conclusion of the experiment
conducted.
