Recognize components, assemblies, or objects as required

Technical drawing, also known as drafting is the act and discipline of

composing drawings that visually communicate how something functions or is to be constructed.

Technical drawing is essential for communicating ideas in industry and engineering. To make
the drawings easier to understand, people use familiar symbols, perspectives, units of
measurement, notation systems, visual styles, and page layout. Together, such conventions
constitute a visual language, and help to ensure that the drawing is unambiguous and relatively easy
to understand. These drafting conventions are condensed into internationally accepted standards and
specifications that transcend the barrier of language making technical drawings a universal means of
communicating complex mechanical concepts.

Technical drawing is a kind of communication where pictures are made to offer information
about the forms of mechanical parts as well as some other further data. There are many ways to draw
something and it depends on the kind of work. So, drawing designs are used in architectonics,
mechanical designs, electrical designs, geological maps, urban plans and so on.

Figure 1. Components of Technical Drawing

Basic Terminologies:
1. Dimension - is informally defined as the minimum number of coordinates needed to specify
any point within it.
2. Dimension line - line that is bounded by two distinct end points and contains every point on
the line between its end points.
3. Termination symbol – (arrowhead) Arrow lines drawn in one direction, preferably from top to
bottom, keep a drawing clear. Avoid arrow lines that loop because this could indicate
redundancy in the business process.
4. Extension line - A light line that extends from the edge or end of a main object line on a
drawing, used in conjunction with dimension lines to help determine the dimension of a
particular feature.
5. Leader line - creates a connection between a drawings of an item.
6. Center line – a line that bisects something into equal parts.
EXERCISES #14
Recognize components, assemblies, or objects as required

Directions: Identify the following.

1. _________________ is informally defined as the minimum number of coordinates

needed to specify any point within it.
2.__________________ line that is bounded by two distinct end points and contains
every point on the line between its end points.
3. _________________ a line that bisects something into equal parts.
4. _________________ a light line that extends from the edge or end of a main object

help determine the dimension of a particular feature.
5.__________________ creates a connection between a drawings of an item.
6. _________________ also known as drafting is the act and discipline of
