Implementation of Modern design Position Transmitters for

measurement of Valve stroke of Turbine Valves & LPBP valves in

210/250/500/600 MW Steam turbines
Newly Developed Design: BHEL has developed Latest design of Position
measurement mounting assembly using M/s Balluff make Micropulse magnetic
type position transmitter. The same type of transmitters are being used in all the
modern design Super‐critical projects for measurement of position of Turbine
valves as well as LP Bypass valves. These transmitters have very high level of
accuracy, reliability and very low hysteresis. This upgraded design can be retrofitted
at site. Otherwise the same can also be supplied with control valve servomotors in
assembled condition as spares. The Position measurement mounting assembly as
well as corresponding model of transmitter have been designed suiting to the
specific design of control valves & its rating. Typical picture of Position

Advantages:
 Earlier design of Position transmitter arrangement, ECIL make transmitters
were used which are based on very old technology & has become obsolete
now a days. Spares support for ECIL transmitters can not be provided.
 New design use Balluff make modern design transmitters which has very high
level of accuracy as compared to old & obsolete ECIL make transmitters.
 Newly developed design has very few linkages & components and hence
requiring very low or no maintenance in the long run.
