Question 1

(a) It is known that P is the point in three-dimensional space with coordinates (4, 1, 3) and
Q is the point with coordinates (1, 2, 4). Compute

(i) 𝐏𝐐.

L: 𝑥 = 7𝑡 + 14, 𝑦 = 6𝑡 + 9, 𝑧 = 𝑡,

(i) Compute the angle between planes P1 and P2 . Give your answer correct to 2
decimal places.

(ii) Construct the parametric equations of the line that passes through the point
R(2, 4, 3) and is parallel to L.

(iii) Assess, with reason, whether plane P1 and line L are orthogonal, parallel or
neither.

(a) A periodic function which period is 2𝜋 is defined by 𝑔(𝑥) = 𝑥 cos 𝑥 , −𝜋 < 𝑥 < 𝜋.
Assess with reason whether 𝑔(𝑥) is an odd or even function (or neither).

(b) Present the periodic function 𝑓(𝑥) given below as a Fourier series up to the fourth
harmonic.
