CALCULATING A RISK RATING


1. Work out a risk Rating for the hazard without controls
2. Write how you will manage the hazard.
a) ELIMINATION – Remove the hazard from the workplace, task, process, method or material
b) SUBSTITUTION – Replace the activity, process, material or substance with a less hazardous one.
c) ENGINEERING – Isolate the hazard using mechanical aids, barriers, ventilation, space and time.
d) ADMINISTRATION – Establish policies, procedures, and training to reduce exposure to risk.
e) PPE – Provide suitable and properly maintained PPE to protect from hazards.
3. Work out a risk rating with controls. Make sure you do not introduce new risks
