Humidity and Relative Humidity
Humidity and Relative Humidity
Have you ever visited a place that just made you feel hot and sticky the entire time,
no matter what you did to cool off? You can thank humidity for that unpleasant
feeling.
Humidity is the amount of water vapor in the air. If there is a lot of water vapor in
the air, the humidity will be high. The higher the humidity, the wetter it feels
outside.
DEW POINT
The dew point is the temperature the air needs to be cooled to (at constant
pressure) in order to achieve a relative humidity (RH) of 100%. At this point the
air cannot hold more water in the gas form. If the air were to be cooled even more,
water vapor would have to come out of the atmosphere in the liquid form, usually
as fog or precipitation. In short, the dew point is an accurate measurement of the
moisture content in the air.
SATURATION DEFICIT
Saturation deficit is the difference between the actual vapour pressure of the
moist. air sample at a given temperature and the saturation vapour pressure
corresponding. to that temperature
