Mesh Current Method

Objectives

T o introduce the mesh – current method.


T o formulate the mesh-current equations.
T o solve electric circuits using the mesh-current
method.
Objectives
Mesh Analysis: There are two types of circuit for mesh analysis.

Type 1: Mesh analysis without current source


Type 2: Mesh analysis with current source

Today we will discuss with type 1; that means circuit without any current
source.
Steps of Mesh Analysis
1. Identify the number of basic meshes.
2. Assign a current to each mesh.
3. Apply KVLaround each mesh.
4. Apply Ohm’s law to get an equation in
terms of the mesh currents.
5. Solve the resulting system of linear
equations.

Mesh Analysis (Type 2)
Mesh Analysis with current source:
Case I: When current source exist only in one mesh then the current of the mesh is equal
to that current.

Case II: When current source exists between two meshes, then the two meshes are
considered as single mesh. This single mesh is known as supermesh.
