System Description:

The system will measure the length of each outrigger beam extension with string
potentiometers located inside each outrigger box. The potentiometer output is 4-20mA.
Minimum requirement is to sense 3 positions (Fully Retracted/0%, Mid-span/50%, Full-
span/100%) of beam extension.
In the case of two stage outrigger, each beam is monitored by on string pot.

The system will use an I/O control module to convert the analog length data to CAN bus
messages.

The outrigger monitoring system is optional. Provide means to set this option ON and OFF.

Calibration of the outrigger beam length sensors will be done through the service software.

The EKS5 display must indicate the operator by flashing the O/R beams in the set up
screen if such beam or beams are not at the valid operating position selected during
rigging code selection. A typical RT or TM crane has valid operating positions at Fully
Retracted, Mid-span and Full-span extended.

Valid operating positions are; the calibrated value for Fully retracted ±3%, the calculated
value for Mid-span ±3%, and the calibrated value for Full-span ±3%. The LMI will not
select the most conservative load chart automatically, selected load chart matching the
selected rigging code will be available once operator reaches the operating screen;
however, an error code will be displayed along with an audible alarm. Refer to figure 1
below.

 If three outriggers are full-span extended and one is fully retracted, all within the
±3% tolerance, then the LMI will display an error code along with audible alarm.

 If three outriggers are full-span extended, and one outrigger is greater than 3%
tolerance at the fully retracted POSITION, but less than mid-span position, the LMI
will display an error code along with audible alarm.

 If any outrigger beam length is greater or less than the calibrated value ±3%
tolerance at fully retracted and full-span, the outriggers are not in a valid operating
position and the LMI will display an error code along with audible alarm.

The stored sensor value for the fully retracted position; length equals 0 feet. The stored
sensor value for the full-pan position length equals 100% extension in ft. This one value is
applicable for all four outrigger beam lengths.

EKS functionality
In the past, the crane driver had to read the outrigger information from display. Wrong
outrigger lengths didn’t prevent the crane driver to confirm the rigging code.
With the new system, the real outrigger length information is available for LMI.

Due to the fact, that outrigger monitoring is in fact a “monitoring” system, wrong outrigger
lengths in comparison with the rigging code doesn’t prevent the crane operator to confirm
the rigging code.

It is necessary, that the real outrigger length is the same as the required value from rigging
code. The outrigger beams must be extended to the valid operating position selected by
the rigging code or the next greater valid outrigger position, operating the crane with
outrigger in between valid positions will cause severe structural damage to the crane;
therefore, the EKS will warn the operator of this situation with an error code along with an
audible alarm. This does not lock the crane function out since this is only a monitoring
system.

Interfaces:

The I/O module gets the information from the outrigger length sensors as an analog input
signal (4….20mA).

TheESX2 calculates the real outrigger position and sends this information to the RCL
(EKS5).

The RCL compares the outrigger position information with the current valid rigging code.
The software allows the operator to confirm the rigging code even if one or more outriggers
do not match the rigging code selected. In this case, the O/R beams are flashing in the set
up screen and an error code, along with an audible alarm, is generated after rigging code
has been confirmed.

Precision length sensor

 The precision length sensor (part number 03143402) from micro epsilon has a
current output signal 4…20mA for further information; refer to (http://www.micro-
epsilon.com/).

 The precision length sensor (part number 80033282) from Celesco has a current
output signal 4…20mA for further information; refer to DVP P/N: 80033282.

Error Definitions:

[8.17.2 + audible alarm] – Outrigger beam or beams at a valid position but not sufficient to
satisfy set up rigging code selected. [The audible alarm may be silenced by pressing the “CE” key.]
[8.17.3 + audible alarm] – Outrigger beam or beams out of range of the +/-3% tolerance.
Also, a broken electrical wire may cause this error code to be display or any other sensor
failure. [The audible alarm may be silenced by pressing the “CE” key.]

Sensor Calibration Menu:

Outrigger Beam Length Sensor Calibration:

Using the latest service software “ServiceXXXXE_Standard.exe”

Steps:
1. Activate the checkbox "Outrigger detection" in Parameters/Driveunitlist.
2. Calibrate the sensors in the screen "Parameters/Calibration analog input OMT".
3. Extend all outriggers to the full-span position.
4. Press the button”Calibrate".
5. Retract and extend all beams to full-span positions, then press "Stop" to store
the parameters.

Note: in the case of the RT9150, only 4 sensors will be available for calibration.

Note: for the case of cranes equipped with two stage outriggers there are two sensors to monitor each
individual outrigger beam, at the Mid-span position the sensor measuring the main beam should be at
100% +-3% extension and the sensor measuring the jack bean should be reading 47% +/-3% extension. If
this fails to be the case error code 8.17.3 should be displayed once the operating screen is reached.
