ANSWER SHEET – SUSTAINABLE ARCHITECTURE

1A. Definition and examples of Sustainable Architecture!

Answer:

Sustainable Architecture is a type of modern architecture today. From the

name alone, you can imagine what Sustainable Architecture itself is like. In
short, Sustainable Architecture is how we make use of renewable items in the
structure of a building, or it can also be in the form of decoration. In addition,
the most important aspect of Sustainable Architecture is the Green Building
System. Where Green Building itself utilizes several things from nature, such
as sunlight which can be used as solar panels to run electrical energy.

(Sequis Center, Jl. Jenderal Sudirman, Jakarta)

As example, Sequis Center is one of the buildings that gets the title Green
Building. This is evidenced by the acquisition of the Gold Greenship Existing
Building 1.0 title from the Green Building Council Indonesia. Achievements
that the Sequis Center was able to achieve in terms of environmentally friendly
buildings were being able to save electricity consumption by up to 28.12%.
Besides that, the Sequis Center is also able to save water usage by 28.26% from
the baseline.

1B. How can we promote sustainable architecture?

Answer:

There are many ways to promote Sustainable Architecture, one example is

with posters. Posters are common in promoting something. Inside the poster
itself we can fill it with a number of things about the benefits or positive impacts
of Sustainable Architecture. Apart from posters, we can also promote it through
major competitions such as architectural contests, both held at the national and
international levels. That way, we can introduce about Sustainable Architecture
to the wider community.

1C. Why is sustainable architecture needed?

Answer:

Sustainable Architecture is urgently needed currently. Certainly not without

reason, one of the important reasons for the need for Sustainable Architecture
is to reduce air pollution, especially in areas that have very high levels of air
pollution such as Jakarta. For example, we can add trees or other plants to our
building design. In addition to providing freshness and comfort, this can also
make the air around it a little cooler and of course it can help reduce air
pollution.

Apart from reducing pollution, Sustainable Architecture or what we often

call Green Architecture/Green Building also has other benefits, such as reducing
the use of water, electricity, utilization of solar energy, and many more. Thus, a
much healthier environment will be created.
2A. What is the role of architects in Sustainable Architecture?

Answer:

Architects have an important role and contribute to Sustainable

Architecture, such as how to consider the interrelationships between buildings,
design elements in the building itself, energy and resources, structures and
systems in buildings, building functions, and design processes or architectural
processes that are responsive to environment. For example, if you want to build
a building with the theme of Green Building, you must pay attention to the
environment, energy and resources at the location where the building will be
built, whether the location is suitable for the construction of a Green Building.

2B. What is the difference between Green Architecture and Sustainable

Architecture?

Answer:

Sustainable Architecture and Green Architecture at first glance are similar,

not a few people even call Sustainable Architecture is Green Architecture, and
vice versa. Basically, this is not wrong, but in fact these two things have
differences. Sustainable Architecture can be said to focus on all aspects. Starting
from planning, design, up to the construction stage, everything is done with
responsibility to the environment that saves resources, so as to provide a more
comfortable and healthy environment, and does not cause side effects or
negative impacts on the surrounding environment.

In contrast to Sustainable Architecture, Green Architecture/Green Building

only focuses on one aspect, namely the environment. Even though it only
focuses on environmental aspects, the design of Green Buildings also has
several aspects that need attention, such as:

- Utilization of Solar Panels or other renewable energy,

- Healthy indoor air quality
- Efficient energy and water resources,
- Adaptable design to changing environmental conditions,
- Utilization of green roofs and green parks,
- Reduction of waste and air pollution,
- Consider the quality of life of occupants through design and construction,
and
- Consideration of environmental requirements in design, construction and
operation.

2C. Which is the greatest challenge that is addressed by SDGs in your project?

Answer:

This project is related to plastic waste, and the biggest challenge in this
project relates to the 13th, 14th and 15th SDGs. This is because there is a need
for further understanding regarding the impacts and dangers of plastic waste to
ordinary people. Apart from that, it is also necessary to make posters that
describe how to process plastic waste properly and correctly, for example about
3R (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle), which is still rare for people to apply these three
things.
