Study Case
(CASE 1 Work–Life Balance at R.G. & Company)

Questions and Answer

1-17. Do you believe the accommodations offered by Tatum’s firm are effective in helping
individuals balance work and family lives? Why or why not?

A : I believe that accommodations offered by the company in theory are effective and could be
applied in real situations. Especially the ability to work remotely and orientation towards goals
instead of the time in the office gives an opportunity for family employees to manage their time.
However such opportunities are not matching the reality where psychological factors, certain
expectations of the third person and effect of social opinion and pressure applied.

1-18. Are there any practices or policies that the organization could implement to allow for
greater worklife balance?

A : As told in the case, the company promotes employees who work overtime in the office, or, in
other words, who stand out in the company, rather than employees who work long hours at
home. In my opinion, it is very important to socialize by communicating directly with other
individuals or groups while in the office. But if you really have responsibilities at home and the
company also allows you to work at home, there really is something that cannot be left behind. I
think it's okay. Depending on what priorities are chosen (work or family), Considering that the
company also provides flexible working hours, I think this is very helpful for employees who
cannot always be in the office. But in my opinion, companies also have to improve employee
evaluation fairly because, wherever they work, the most important thing is the end result,
whether the employee has the right to be promoted or not after seeing their performance in the
company.

1-19. Are there any actions Tatum could take to achieve both her professional goals and
work–life balance?
A : The actions that Tatum took were to prioritize her career to pursue her goals to be promoted
by the company, she prioritized her career over his family with the support of her family who
was able to not forget her child if her child was sick she would go home and when nothing
happened at home she will continue to stay in the office working overtime.

1-20. How important do you believe work–life balance is for job satisfaction and career
success?

A : Work-life balance is a very well-known term among Generation Z workers. Work-life

balance is the ability to balance work and non-work activities or lifestyles that are not tied to
work, for example, gathering with family or going on vacation (known as self-reward). Work-life
balance is believed to make work performance better because it is considered to reduce stress or
psychological pressure due to work. According to Najam U., Burki U., Khalid W. (2020). Does
Work-Life Balance Moderate the Relationship Between Career Commitment and Career
Success? Evidence from an Emerging Asian Economy states that work-life balance has a positive
effect on subjective career success, meaning that it does not apply to everyone or only applies to
certain people. However, I believe that work-life balance is an effort to balance work and
non-work life so that employees don't feel stressed, this will also indirectly affect job satisfaction
and career success. I also believe that every worker, regardless of their job, will definitely try to
maintain a quality work-life balance in order to get a better quality of life and quality of work.
