ABSTRACT

This study aimed to discover the effect of subtitled and dubbed anime in the vocabulary
level of anime enthusiasts. It examines the vocabulary level of the respondents in there The
design that was utilized in this study was the Quasi-Experimental method, the pretest-posttest
research design. This study explores if there are indeed any vocabulary acquisition and learning
effects from consuming either subtitled or dubbed anime, the two common forms of audiovisual
translation. Participants (n = 40) were Grade 8 students from Banga National Highschool, who
are an anime enthusiasts. Two experimental groups where created, one is for the subtitled anime
viewers’ group, and dubbed anime viewers’ group. All participants completed the pre and post-
test after four sessions of intervention (anime). Data was gathered from the results of an adapted
and validated vocabulary pre-test and post-test after the application of the treatment. Moreover,
this study used t-Test hypothesis testing in determining the level of proficiency of the students
vocabulary based on DepEd Order No.13’s. 2012.

Concluded that the findings of this study revealed that incorporating anime as a new
method of learning has a significant impact on increasing the vocabulary of English learners. It
has also established a distinction between dubbed and subtitled anime and proved that dubbed
anime is the most effective version. As a result, it is suggested that anime can be considered as a
tool for teaching in the near future.
