General Description: This course aims to engage
students in appreciation and critical study of 21st
Century Literature from the Philippines and the
World encompassing their various dimensions,
genres, elements, structures, contexts, and
traditions.
Course Description: This subject focuses on the study
and appreciation of the literature of the region where
the school is located in relation to the literature of
the other regions of the country.

DEFINITION OF
LITERATURE
Literature

The word Literature, in its broadest sense, is


any written work. Etymologically, the term
derives from Latin litaritura/litteratura,
“writing formed with letters,” although some
definitions include spoken or sung texts.
Literature
Literature broadly is any collection of written
work, but it is also used more narrowly for
writings specifically considered to be an art
form, especially prose fiction, drama, and
poetry.

Literature, as an art form, can also include works


in various non-fiction genres, such
as biography, diaries, letters, and essays. Within
its broad definition, literature includes non-fictional
books, articles or other printed information on a
particular subject.[4][5]

Linguistic analysis of literature comprises the examination of
grammatical features of a work of literature; examination of the
sounds of poetry (and other text as appropriate) for relationship
to the effects of sounds; examination of discourse features in
narrative including situation of discourse, thought presentation in
discourse, and speech presentation in discourse.

ETHNIC DIMENSIONS OF LITERATURE

Ethnic dimensions focuses on the


characteristic of a human group
having racial, religious, linguistic, and
certain other traits in common.
GEOGRAPHIC DIMENSION OF LITERATURE

The authors use the geographic perspective


when crafting novels, stories, or other works of
fiction. The geographic dimensions give the
literary work its setting in terms of place.
