INTRODUCTION OF COMPANY: -
Mapro is Located around the idyllic hill-town of Panchgani in Western India, Mapro Foods
manufactures Fruit Jams; Fruit beverage concentrates – Crushes and Squashes; and Fruit
Bars. Withan annual processing capacity of around 30 thousand MT, Mapro is a market
leader in Western India.Founded in 1959, The Company has grown organically over the last
five decades with sustained profitability. Known for its quality and innovation, Mapro has
built on its founder’s philosophy of developing productsthat are value for money and
imaginative.
Founded in 1959, the company had its humble beginnings in the hill town of Panchgani, near
Mahabaleshwar, when a businessman named Kishor vora, a pharmacist by profession,
decided to makesome strawberry jam. He then went on to develop innovative products such
as jelly sweet, fruit cubeswith fruit juice and rose syrup with rose petals- all for the first time
in the country. Todayhis ‘hobby’has borne fruit in the shape of Mapro, one of the most
modern, hygienic, quality focused fruit productmanufacturing units in India. His vision has
been taken forward, thereby transforming the region around Mahabaleshwar and Panchgani,
the erstwhile sleepy hill stations of Maharashtra, into a flourishing fruit processing zone.
Mapro was the pioneer of fruit-based confectionery in India, with its first jelly sweets being
made from fruit juices and liquid glucose. The ‘falero’ pulpy fruit chews, which are better
known as‘pares de fruit’ in the rest of the world-are excellent examples of Mapro’s very own
innovation labs.Falero comes in unique indigenous flavors that are suited to the Indian palate,
like Kachhi Kairi (Raw Mango), Mango and Strawberry With its state-of-the-art production
facilities, Mapro is committed to developing, producing, packaging, storing and selling food
products, with high regard of safety, nutrition and taste, by continually improving quality and
food safety management system to meet and exceed customer’s expectation. The company
has obtained ISO 22000:2005 certification from Bureau Veritas India. The implementation of
FSSC 22000 and B.R.C standards is being planned in the near future.
Having started with a capacity of 10MT of processed fruit products a year, the company
todayhas processing capacity about 30,000 MT per year with its factories in the Shendurjane
village of Satara district, Panchgani town, Gureghar village of Mahabaleshwar tehsil and
Indore town of Kangradistrict in Himachal Pradesh.
Mapro has established widespread distribution channels to reach its customers in west. North
and south India. Its network comprises of 12 super distributors and over 300 distributers
across 17 Indian states. Mapro’s products are available in a large number of stores and it has
a visible presencein almost all the major cities across the country. Mapro has plans to
penetrate in other geographical regions, and also in smaller towns: and welcomed
communication from interested parties with manpower and infrastructure for retail
distribution.
Mapro has recently started exporting its products. Markets are continuously growing and
Mapro is currently prevalent in Fiji, Mauritius, Oman, Russia, UAE, UK, Uganda, USA,
Canada, Africa and Australia.
HISTORY OF COMPANY: -
Mapro set up a fruit processing unit at Gureghar with 12 permanent employees and also
involving remaining villagers into farming. Mapro provided the farmers technical guidance
and also guaranteed to buy their produce. The region has the highest produce of strawberries
in India and constant increase in tourist inflow over time. Tourist recognition led to the
development of the Mapro Garden which is the popular identity of Gureghar among tourists
now.
Gureghar or Mapro Garden is host to the annual Strawberry Festival. Mahabaleshwar
contributes to 85% of the total Strawberry produce in India and about 80% is consumed fresh.
The Strawberry Festival encourages the strawberry cultivation in the belt. The highlights of
this festival are fresh farm picked strawberry lined up on tables for visitors to eat to their
fullest as well as traditional folk performances such as Shivkalin Dhol and Lezim, a high
energy dance for which dancers are invited from Pratapgarh.
Gureghar also boasts of being one of the first villages to have 100% sanitation with every
house having their own biogas plant. Statistics reveal 100% employment in the village, with
none under poverty line, and 100% literacy with a 0% dropout rate.
Mapro is a food processing company founded in 1959, in the hill-town of Panchgani, near
Mahabaleswar - a popular tourist destination near Mumbai and Pune. Mapro was started by
Kishore Vora a pharmacist by profession and later (1983 onwards) grown by his nephew
Mayur Vora. The high fruit juice content of Mapro's crushes and squashes - 45 per cent,
compared to 25 per cent for rivals Kissan and Mala's - made them instant hits.
The rise of modern retail gave Mapro a nationwide network. After tax reforms Mapro
invested in setting up three new units in Satara and Pune districts in Maharashtra and
Pathankot in Punjab. As of 2012, installed capacity was 100 tonnes a day. As growth in the
jams and squashes business started slowing in 2005, Mapro entered the confectionery and
chocolate business.
