Friend

Friend (a person whom one knows and with whom one has a bond of mutual affection) is
someone that some of us have or had at least in this lifetime. It is someone that is there for you
weather you are at your lowest. A friend could also be considered as part of the family even if
you are not related or connected to them by blood. You can call someone a friend when you have
a strong connection or bond with them. A friend is a companion that accompanies you in any
kind of situation that you need a company or someone to support you. A friend is a person that
the presence could be felt even if the distance are moons away. However, friend could be an
animal pet, non-living things, or a feeling that could be felt on a certain things by some. Friend is
an example of a bond that sometimes cannot be compared to any other relationship.

Of course it has its origin and why is it the word that we use this day. The word friend was
used way back in the 1800. Because of its age, other terms or synonyms are circulating around
the world and it varies from each country. Other terms or synonyms became a callsign used to
refer to a friend. You can call your friend buddy, compadre, pal, mate, etc. These callsigns are
examples of synonym of the word friend. A friend could also be your partner, peer, brother,
sister, supporter, and accomplice. The word has a wide or rather broad definition that it can be
associated with other words that has their meaning close to this word.

For another knowledge, we would like to add this information, frēod is the Old English source
of Modern English friend and is related to frēon which is an Old English word that means “to
love, like, honor, set free (from slavery or confinement). Despite the age of the word friend, the
word continuously spread as a positive word with its innocent intent especially to the youth that
are hooked up by the word and its definition as it relates to their young and pure mind. Not only
it is relevant to the young, it is more of a serious word for the elders as they have a wider
perspective in life and have a deeper understanding on a certain things. The word is powerful as
it is today because a friend is a role that plays in our life. It could be compared to an armor that
we use as a tool for defense and guidance.

Lastly, a friend is someone who is caring without a hint of any condition and do things
wholeheartedly. They should be someone who live with integrity in any aspect in life. Someone
who has mercy and empathy not just to you but also those that surrounds them as it reflect them
as who they really are. You should not feel any discomfort when you are with your friend
because they are someone who should give you comfort when you are around them. Most
importantly a friend is someone that could be trusted weather it comes to a small things.
