1. The marked price of a notebook computer is $6 000. The notebook computer is sold at a
discount and the selling price is $4 800.
(a) Find the discount percent. (2 marks)
(b) If the percentage profit is 60%, find the cost of the notebook computer. (3 marks)

2. (a) Paul has $200 and gives a portion of his money to his brother John. Paul spends half
of the remaining money and John spends one third of his money. If Paul has $16 more
than John after spending the money, find the amount that John receives from Paul.

(b) There are some $2 and $5 coins in a purse. If there are 7 coins and their total value is
$29, find the number of $2 coins. (4 marks)

5. Let P(m, –10) be a point on the coordinate plane, where m is a constant. Q is the image
obtained by rotating P about O through 90 degree in anti-clockwise direction. R is the image
obtained by reflecting P by the x-axis.
(a) Find the coordinates of Q and R in terms of m (4 marks)
(b) If the area of triangle PQR is 20 square units, find the possible values of m. (6 marks)
