What should the public do to help protect the environment?

Nowadays, environmental issues have become the hottest topic in our society. It does not seem that
many people actually realize the scale of the situation. In addition, the ones who know what the world is
up against do not feel the urge to help because most of the people do not try and think it would not
really change much. So what could the public do for the environment to help protect it?

Firstly recycling would reduce wasting natural resources. Simply recycling or fixing an item, we can save
all the energy that would have been consumed in the process of making it. The same example can be
takes with plastic items. It would reduce air and water pollution. Factories produce large amounts of
smoke when producing plastic material and without proper waste disposal it will heavily pollute the
environment.

Secondly in order to keep Earth a green and healthy place using greener means of transport is a good
action to take. Electric buses for example are a huge demand nowadays and are implemented in cities in
order to not pollute the air so much. In addition to this, swapping transport with car to bicycle would
drastically improve air quality and will reduce traffic. If you do not enjoy riding a bicycle, at least taking
public transport would still be better for the environment.

To sum up, there are many ways to protect the environment, but in my opinion recycling and using
greener means of transport are most important and I am sure that we still have time to correct our
mistakes and make a difference for many future generations to come.

Informal letter to a friend

Dear Rob,

How did the summer vacation go, bro? It was with your classmates right? I hope you had great fun with
them! Like two years ago I had the opportunity to go to Rome with a few close mates. I read your email
asking for advice for either joining the gym or tennis group.

As you already know my favorite sports are volleyball and tennis, but I didn’t really think of actually
playing them competitively so mom decided give me a subscription card to the gym. At first I was really
skeptical but when time passed I actually got really used to it. When you grow accustomed to it, its
actually very relaxing! You can listen to music and just have your own personal time, you know? Also
you can go there anytime!

Also I tried going to tennis groups but for me it didn’t really work out. First of all its way more expensive
and you need to stick to schedule. I prefer playing sport whenever I’m in the mood and I bet that you
feel the same. Another thing is that in these groups for me it was kind of hard to play because everyone
were very competitive and didn’t give me a chance. I know you like challenges but be prepared because
it’s very tiring.

If I were you I’d choose to go join the gym because it is not very demanding of a person and is easier and
a sure way to get fit! But I have to stop writing now because I don’t have time, I’ve got a thesis to do for
tomorrow and I haven’t even started!
See you soon!

Proposal to change new shopping center location

 Aim

This proposal is intended to outline issues local residents would have and the inevitable destruction
of the natural beauty of the place if the new shopping center is built. The final section makes
recommendations about alternative locations where the building could be established.

 Pointing out problems

The recent news about the shopping center construction is devastating news to the local residents.
After asking some people living there about their opinion on the situation, I understood one of their
main problems is that the beautiful territory near the river that will be cut down in the process.
Many wonder why the council has chosen that exact spot near the river and the mountain, and not
some flat space on the other side of the city. The chosen place is part of a park where residents have
spent lots of time and would mean a huge loss for them as well as for tourists. Another thing is that
the local school takes the students to the park and nature, rather than sitting in the rooms in a
closed environment to study nature and biology.

 Suggestions

If the shopping center is necessary to the town’s growth, rather than taking out a part of the park to
build it, the town council can decide to build it next to the almost unused large parking lot that is a
few streets away from the local market on the other side of town. That way no land would be
wasted for a new parking lot and it would put the current one to use and reduce required money for
turning the chosen land into buildable space.
