Panda Bear

Crochet Pattern by Little Bear Crochets

You will need:

One skein of white yarn

One skein of black yarn
Stuffing
One pair of safety eyes
Your favourite crochet hook
Your favourite needle

For the pandas in the pictures I used Stylecraft Special DK

yarn, a 2.75 mm (size C) hook and 6 mm eyes.

Abbreviations:

sc = stitch
inc = increase, make two stitches in one stitch
dec = decrease, make two stitches into one stitch
hdc = half double crochet stitch
dc = double crochet stitch
sl = slip stitch
( ... ) = repeat whatever is in between the brackets
fo = finish off

Good luck & Have fun!

Eye patch (x2)
Use black
1. 6 in a magic circle (6)
2. ( inc ) x 4, ( 2 hdc in next sc) x 2 (12)
3. 8 sc, (2 hdc in next sc), (2 dc in next sc) x 2,
(2 hdc in next sc) (16)
Fo met a sl, leave a long thread

Stick your safety eyes through the patches (in the

middle of the magic circle you created to start the
piece), but do not put the washer on yet! Save the
eye patches for now. Later on you will use them
while crocheting the head.

Head
Use white
1. 6 in a magic circle (6)
2. ( inc ) x 6 (12)
3. ( sc, inc) x 6 (18)
4. ( 2 sc, inc) x 6 (24)
5. ( 3 sc, inc) x 6 (30)
6. ( 4 sc, inc) x 6 (36)
7. ( 5 sc, inc) x 6 (42)
8. ( 6 sc, inc) x 6 (48)
9. ( 7 sc, inc) x 6 (54)
10‐20. sc around (54)
Place your safety eyes (with the dark patches)
between round 15 and 16, with 13 stitches
between them. Just leave the dark patches for now,
you will sew them in place later.
21. ( 7 sc, dec) x 6 (48)
22. ( 6 sc, dec) x 6 (42)
23. ( 5 sc, dec) x 6 (36)
24. ( 4 sc, dec) x 6 (30)
25. ( 3 sc, dec) x 6 (24)
Slowly start stuffing
26. ( 2 sc, dec) x 6 (18)
27. ( sc, dec) x 6 (12)
28. ( dec ) x 6 (6)
Fo, weave away leftover thread

Now you've still got these weird dark patches on the

head. Be sure to turn them in such a way that the
parts where you made hdc and dc stitches are facing
not sideways, but slightly down. You can use the
pictures as reference, or google the picture of a
panda if you want to be sure! Now take your needle
and sew the patches in place.
Snout
Use white
1. make a chain of 7 sc
Start in the second stitch of the chain and work in
an oval round
2. 4 sc, 3 sc in the next sc, 4 sc, 3 sc in the next sc (14)
3. 4 sc, inc the next 3 sc, 4 sc, inc in the next 3 sc (20)
4. 5 sc, inc, sc, inc, sc, inc, 5 sc, inc, sc, inc, sc, inc (26)
5‐7. sc around (26)
Fo, leave a long thread

Sew the panda's mouth onto the snout by using a

black thread and making a triangle of several diagonal
lines towards the same lower point (finishing with a
horizontal line at the top to work away uneven lines).
Make one vertical line down from that lower point.
Then expand that line to two sides to create a smile.
Use the drawings at the bottom of the page for
reference!

Now sew the snout onto the head, between the two
black patches with the eyes.

Ear (x2)
Use black
1. 6 in a magic circle (6)
2. ( inc) x 6 (12)
3. ( sc, inc) x 6 (18)
4‐7. sc around (18)
Fo, don't stuff and leave a long thread

Now flatten the ears and sew them on top of

the head.
Legs (x2)
Use black
1. 6 in a magic circle (6)
2. ( inc ) x 6 (12)
3. ( 3 sc, inc) x 3 (15)
4. ( 4 sc, inc) x 3 (18)
5. ( 5 sc, inc) x 3 (21)
6. sc around (21)
7. ( 6 sc, inc) x 3 (24)
8. ( 7 sc, inc) x 3 (27)
Switch to white
9. sc around (27)
Fo first leg, don't fo second leg!
Now take both your legs, continue crocheting
around starting from your endpoint at the
second leg, but now crochet around the first leg.
Once you've one all 27 sc, continue onto your
second leg. This way you will mend them
together and make a new large round of 54 sc.
Body
Continue from the two legs you have fused

33. sc around (36) body. Make sure the colour switch is on the
34. ( 10 sc, dec) x 3 (33) back of the panda. You are going to sew the
35‐36. sc around (33) body to the head with 27 sewing stitches, one
37. ( 9 sc, dec) x 3 (30) for each sc. Use the pictures as a reference.
38‐39. sc around (30)
40. ( 8 sc, dec) x 3 (27)
41‐42. sc around (27)
Fo, stuff, leave a long thread and do not close
