Materials Abbreviations (US Terms)
- 2.5 mm crochet hook (US C) st = stitch
- 100 % cotton yarn for a 2.5 mm hook ch = chain
- 4 pairs of 10 mm safety eyes slst = slip stitch
- Tapestry needle sc = single crochet
- Polyfiber fill hdc = half double crochet

You will need:

Skin tone yarn, white for their underwear, three shades of brown for the hairs of Meg, Jo and Beth and
yellow for Amy’s. Then you’ll need two colors for the dress of each doll: a main one and a contrasting one.
Finally, the color of your choice for Meg’s cape.
Oh! And a bit of pink to embroider their cheeks. I use 100% cotton yarn.

Finished size:
From head to toe, each March sister measures 22 cm approximately.
Of course, should you choose a different hook and yarn, final measures will vary…

Ready? Let’s begin!

The dolls are crocheted from their little legs up to the head in rounds… Then, you’ll crochet the skirt of their
dresses…

For all four dolls…

Leg 1
{Start with the color of her skin…}
1. Magic ring of 6 sc
2. Crochet *2 sc in each st*, repeat * (12)
3. to 8. Crochet 12 sc
9. Change to white (underwear) and, only through
back loops, crochet 12 sc
Close and break the yarn. Set aside.

Leg 2 + body

chain. Now, crochet 12 sc along leg 2 and, finally, 3 sc
on the other side of the 3-ch-chain. Total stitches: 30

Meg’s Braid
{Using Meg’s hair color…}
1. Chain 76 ch stitches. Starting from the second chain
from your hook, crochet 1 sc in each chain (75 sc).
Close and break the yarn.
Make TWO more. Once you have all three ”hair locks”,
tie them with a bit of yarn all together in one of the
ends and braid them.
Once you have the braid, sew both ends together to
form a ring. Now slip the braid-ring through Meg’s
head and secure it in place with a few stitches.
Jo’s Hair
{Using one of the shades of brown yarn, the one you
chose for Jo…}
1. Magic ring of 6 sc
2. Crochet *2 sc in each st*, repeat * (12)
3. Crochet *1 sc, 2 sc in the next st*, repeat * (18)

the head. Stuff the hairbun and sew it to Jo’s head. I
placed it a bit to the side, but this is up to you.
Beth’s Hair

to the head. Sew it now. Notice that Beth’s hair is
parted to one side. As I sewed it, I made three long
stitches with my tapestry needle to simulate some
loose hairs on her forehead.
Braid
Cut 9 strands of 35 cm each using Beth’s hair color.
Choose three stitches right in the center of the back of
her head, on the edge of the hair piece. With your
tapestry needle, pass three strands through each
stitch, folding them in halves. Take the strands and
braid them. Tie them with a bit of the yarn used for
her dress. Trim the ends to make the braid tidier.
Amy’s Hair
{Using yellow yarn…}
1. Magic ring of 6 sc
2. Crochet *2 sc in each st*, repeat * (12)
3. Crochet *1 sc, 2 sc in the next st*, repeat * (18)
4. Crochet *2 sc, 2 sc in the next st*, repeat * (24)
5. Crochet *3 sc, 2 sc in the next st*, repeat * (30)
6. Crochet *4 sc, 2 sc in the next st*, repeat * (36)
7. Crochet *5 sc, 2 sc in the next st*, repeat * (42)
8. Crochet *13 sc, 2 sc in the next st*, repeat * (45)
9. to 16. Crochet 45 sc

Now * chain 7 ch stitches. Starting from the second
chain from your hook, crochet 1 sc in each stitch, till

Crochet 2 slst along the edge of the hair piece*, repeat
three times, to create a three-hairlocks fringe. Finally
crochet 1 sc, 1 hdc, 5 dc, 1 hdc, 1 sc, 1 slst. Don’t break
the yarn… We’ll start Amy’s curls now… So chain 21 ch
stitches. Insert hook in the second ch from hook and
crochet 1 sc. Then crochet 1 sc in each stitch along the
chain, until you reach the border of the hair piece
(you’ll end up with 20 sc). The locks will curl naturally
as you go.
And now… Crochet *1 slst in the next st and chain 21
ch stitches again. Insert hook in the second ch from
hook and do 1 sc. Crochet 1 sc in each stitch along the
chain, until you reach the border of the hair piece
again (20 sc)*. Repeat * till you complete 18 hair
locks. Crochet one last slst.
Close. Break the yarn and leave a long tail to sew the
hair onto the head. Sew it now and remember to
secure the short hairlocks of the fringe with some
stitches to Amy’s forehead. Using a bit of the
contrasting color, chain 30 ch stitches to create Amy’s
headband and sew it too.
Meg’s little cape
{Using the color of your choice…}
IMPORTANT: Meg’s cape is not crocheted in rounds but
in rows.
ALSO IMPORTANT: This cape will fit all four March
sisters, so you can crochet one for each!
1. Chain 19 ch stitches. Starting from the second chain
from hook, crochet 1 sc in each ch stitch (18 sc). Chain
1 and turn.
2. Crochet *2 sc, 2 sc in the next st*, repeat * (24).
Chain 1 and turn.
3. Crochet 24 sc. Chain 1 and turn.
4. Crochet *3 sc, 2 sc in the next st*, repeat * (30).
Chain 1 and turn.
5. to 6. Crochet 30 sc. Chain 1 and turn.
7. Crochet *4 sc, 2 sc in the next st*, repeat * (36).
Chain 1 and turn.
8. to 10. Crochet 36 sc. Chain 1 and turn.
11. Crochet *2 sc, 1 picot stitch on top of the previous
stitch*, repeat * 17 times. Crochet 2 sc to finish the
row.
Don’t break the yarn! For a tidier finish I recommend
you to chain 1 to turn the piece 90 degrees clockwise
and crochet 10 sc along the side of the piece, working in
the spaces between rows. When you reach the top edge,
crochet 18 sc in the remaining loops of the foundation
chain. Then chain 1 to turn the piece 90 degrees
clockwise again and crochet 10 sc along the other side
of the piece, once again working in the spaces between
rows.
Close, break the yarn and weave in ends. Make two
chains of 15 ch stitches each and sew them to the
cape, to be able to tie it around Meg’s neck.
