ART-1

Ethical and Legal Issues:

The case of Presidential Pressure presents a scenario where Tony, the Vice
President of a technology company, is under pressure from the White House
to provide customer information without their consent. The ethical issue is the
breach of privacy and confidentiality of the customers, while the legal issue is
that the company is bound by law to protect the privacy of its customers.

Possible Courses of Action:

For constructing a matrix you can follow the below-mentioned steps:
 Open a blank spreadsheet or table on a document editor.
 Create two rows and three columns for the table.
 Label the columns with "Courses of Action," "Ethical Implications," and "Legal
Implications."
 In the first row of the "Courses of Action" column, type "Comply with the
request," and in the second row, type "Refuse the request."
 In the "Ethical Implications" column, under "Comply with the request," write
"Violation of customers' privacy, lack of respect for rights," and under "Refuse
the request," write "Upholding customers' privacy, respect for rights."
 In the "Legal Implications" column, under "Comply with the request," write
"Violation of the Electronic Communications Privacy Act (ECPA)," and under
"Refuse the request," write "Compliance with the ECPA."
 Review and edit the table for accuracy and completeness.
 Save or export the table as needed for the assignment submission

PART-2
Importance of Ethical and Legal Behaviour:
In the context of Tony's ethical and legal dilemmas, the importance of ethical
and legal behaviour is paramount. Upholding ethical and legal standards is
critical for any business, as it ensures that customers' rights are respected,
and promotes the company's integrity and reputation. In this case, Tony's
decision would not only impact the privacy of customers but also the
company's compliance with the law, which could result in legal repercussions.

PART-3
Ethically and Legally Sound Choice:
Tony has two possible choices; either he can comply with the request or
refuse it. The ethically and legally sound choice is to refuse the request and
uphold the customers' privacy. This decision aligns with the Deontological
ethical lens, which places a significant emphasis on individual rights and
respect for their dignity. Upholding the customers' privacy rights is an ethical
obligation that transcends any business interest, as the company has a moral
duty to protect its customers' privacy. Additionally, this decision is legally
compliant with the Electronic Communications Privacy Act, which mandates
that companies must protect their customers' data from unauthorized
disclosure.
In conclusion, the case of Presidential Pressure underscores the importance
of ethical and legal behaviour in business. Tony's decision to refuse the
request demonstrates that ethical standards and legal obligations are
essential for any business, and they must be upheld at all times. Complying
with the request would not only breach customer privacy but also violate the
law, which would undermine the company's integrity and reputation.
Therefore, it is essential to prioritize ethical and legal considerations in any
business decision-making process.
