1 - General (Fig. 1)
The vertical stabilizer box mainly consists of two spars, eight ribs and skin plates stiffened by angle
stiffeners. The front and rear spars are fitted with stub fin attachment fittings at their lower part.
The space between ribs 4 and 5 is used as an attachment box for the servo-control,
2 -spars
The spars consist of angle caps and of a reinforced plate web.
3 - Ribs
-Two side folded plates rivetted to ribs 4 and 5 and the right-hand skin plate and attached to the
rear spar tbrough two reinforcing blocks and to a tint top-hat section tbrough splice angles.
-An upper folded plate used for fastening the servo-control attachment fitting and attached to the
side folded plates, the front top-hat section and a Z-section folded plate,
-Two attachment fittings (upper and lower) assembling the rear spar, ribs 4 and 5 and the side
folded plates.
5 - Skin plates
The two skin panels are chemically-machined variable-thickness AU4Gl panels. They are stiffened
by means of angles between the ribs and a top-hat section at the control surface baffle. The left-
hand skin panel is provided with five holes closed by doors and includes a rim for attachment of the
leading edge between ribs 1 and 5.
