5s Procedure
PURPOSE
The purpose of this procedure is to implement 5S principles to improve housekeeping & to
make the people tend to work more efficiently in clean surroundings.

PROCEDURE
Sort
1.The objective of sort is to reduce the number of specific items in
the workplace to only what is actually needed. Potential items for red
tagging are any obsolete, defective, unused or unlikely to be used machines,
equipment, materials, vehicles or fixtures.
2.Each area to have a red tag holding area clearly identified and
demarcated.
3.A red tagging audit shall be carried out by the housekeeping co-
ordinator at least once in a month.
4. If the items are not kept at their designated area they are
identified using the Red Tag Form (MFQAF053) & the items moved to red
tag area and document the details in the Red Tag Master List / Red Tag
Register. Refer to Flow chart, for instructions on usage of Red Tag.
Shine
1.The purpose of shine is to make the workplace a clean, bright place
for everyone to work.
Standardise
1.The purpose of standardise is to prevent backsliding or setbacks, to
help maintain the first three S’s as a part of daily routine.
Sustain
1.The purpose of sustain is implementation of a common process of 5S.
