36 Tomatoes are an important part of the Indian household, king of the Indian kitchen, and
when their prices are skyrocketing, it disturbs the monthly budget of every Indian
family. Above are the few headlines that have really affected every single household in
India and are defiantly threatening the Indian economy section. In recent weeks the

prices of tomatoes have surged up to Rs 150 to Rs 200 per kilogram in the retail markets 1
and experts don’t see a sign of ease in pricing. The exorbitant rate of tomatoes is
attributed to a combination of environmental, logistical, and market factors. 2

37 A farmer has a circular garden as shown in the figure. He has different types of trees, plants
and flower plants in his garden. In the garden, there are two mango trees A and B.Similarly
there were two Ashok trees at the same distance as shown at C and D .Distance between all
the trees were the same. AC and BD intersect at O such that ∠AOB=900 , and the distance of

38 A workshop was organised at New State Academy School, New Delhi. The number of
participants were 10 more than 8 times the number of mentors and the total strength in the
conference hall was 100.

(i) Find the number of mentors in the conference hall?
(ii) [A] The conference hall was rectangular in shape with length being 5 times greater than
that of the breadth. If the total area covered was 125 square meters then what were the exact
dimensions of the floor of the hall?

[B] For seating arrangement of the participants in the hall, how many chairs are needed in
each row such that the number of rows is a perfect square number?
(iii) Tea and snacks were being served during the breaks, costing Rs 25 per person per break.
What would be the total cost incurred during a 3-day workshop with 2 breaks each day,
excluding mentors?
