Admission Interviews
As part of your application you may be asked to attend a video interview with our
admissions team. The admission interview is designed to assess your passion for
your subject and discuss your background and knowledge of the university.
What are we looking for?
The interviewer will be looking to see if you have
thought deeply about why you have chosen to study
in the UK, your university choice and your selected
course. The best candidates are those who are able
to compare and contrast their study choices with the
other options available, both in the UK and elsewhere.
It’s also more important to provide clear and original
reasons for your choices than to memorise lots
of information that does not clearly relate to your
chosen subject.

How can I prepare for my interview?
Students who provide rehearsed answers or have been
coached for their interview often come across as the
least convincing – it’s best to be yourself, relax a little,
and talk about your individual interests in your course.
We recommend that you:
• Think about why you want to study this subject
rather than other subjects. Many students receive
advice from parents, agents and elsewhere, but what
is it about your subject that interests you?
• Compare similar courses at 3-4 other UK universities.
How is the course at this university different from
elsewhere?
• Consider your future plans. What career options will
this degree make available to you and what skills
do you hope to gain from your course? Will your
future salary justify the investment in an international
degree?
• If there’s been a gap since your last course of study,
why are you choosing to return to higher education
now, why not previously?
We also expect candidates to have considered
the university’s location and surroundings, their
accommodation options and how they will pay for
their studies. The last thing we want is for students to
run out of money half way through their course! So it’s
important to discuss with your sponsor their income
and savings as well as any alternative finance you may
be using.
