Q3 Marks
a) The 1000 kg cart is hoisted up the hill with a motor driven cable system. The
force in the cable is F = (3500t2) N, where t is measured in seconds. The cart has
an initial velocity of 5 m/s at s = 0 and t = 0. Assume a total frictional coefficient of
0.1 acts between the wheels and the hill surface.

I. If force changes with time, is the acceleration constant or does it also change 5
with time?
II. Determine the equation for velocity for the cart using the forces acting on the 15
cart and initial boundary conditions provided.
5
III. Determine the velocity at t = 2 seconds
IV. From the velocity equation, determine the displacement equation for the 5
motion of the particle
5
V. Using the displacement equation, find the displacement at t = 2 seconds.
