HISTORY OF CHEERLEADING

The history of cheerleading is related to the sports history of United states, where in the historical
developmentof crowd participation at athletic events and, sporting venues.

The origin can be traced in late 19th century, where in 1860s students from great Britain started to cheer
in unison for their favorite athletes at sports event. While this phenomena reaches the America.

In late 1880s, the recorded first locomotive style of yell was performed at an American campus. It was
first seen and heard during a football match.

The organized all male cheerleading was transpired when Thomas peebles, a graduate from University
of Minnesota in 1884.

Through the initiative of johnny Campbell, a student from the same university and from that
cheerleading officially bagan in Novemeber 2, 1998.

In the first 25 years cheerleading was a male activity. It was 1920s when women participated in
cheerleading.

Hand positions

 Bucket - Keep the elbows tucked closely into the sides at all times and never open the
hands wider than the shoulders.
 Candlestick - both arms punch straight out in front, parallel to both each other and the
ground
 Clasp - A clasp should be just below the chin with hands cupped. .
 Blade - Your hands are open, your fingers are straight and together, your palms are down, and
your pinkies are facing back in the blade position.
 Jazz hands - Your hands are open, your fingers are straight and together, your palms are down,
and your pinkies are facing back in the blade position.
 Clap - Your elbows should be pulled in and pointed down, and your hands should be just
below your chin.
