Effectiveness of Open Educational Resources on the Academic Performance of Grade 12 STEM

Students in Distance Learning

RRL

(Alexa) Open Educational Resources (OER) are effective initiatives aimed at ensuring that all students
have access to cutting-edge educational opportunities and resources. In many ways, they make it easier
to adopt student-centered learning (SCL) in teaching, learning, and evaluation. SCL exercises found in
OER help learners pick up new abilities. OER's wide range of options makes it possible to tailor training
to each learner's unique set of skills, fostering independence in the process. With the inclusion of OER
materials, the assessment of the learner is shaped differently (Sherimon, et. al., 2018)

(ALEXA) Open textbooks and online resources are frequently used in place of conventional textbooks
while developing OER courses. Numerous studies have demonstrated that such a change has no impact
on students' growth or performance (Kersey 2019). Some studies, like the open psychology
implementation and the secondary level science research based on end-of-the-year state standardized
assessments, showed an improvement in performance and retention utilizing OER. Effectiveness of the
materials is probably a key factor in education's acceptance of open educational resources (OER). What
learners need specially Grade 12 students is pick the free, more flexible, and more accessible OER that
can be argued that they are at least as effective as conventional open educational resources (OER).

(ALEXA) This study of Nusbaum et. al entitled "Open Educational Resources as a Tool for Educational
Equity: Evidence from an Introductory Psychology Class". Researcher are aware that the cost of an
education is rising and that not all students can afford materials like textbooks to get the information
they need for a particular course. Price increases for textbooks, which have outpaced inflation, are one
indicator of growing expenses. Open educational materials are frequently suggested as a fix for this
issue. However, it is unclear whether the quality of these resources is on par with that of typical
commercial textbooks. The researcher found no significant differences between textbook groups on
course performance or perceptions of the book. Learners of any age especially Senior High School of
Grade 12 may pick up new skills anytime they have free time. Additionally, they may simply access the
lesson they want to study via OER.

(ALEXA) Access to instructional materials is made easier through open educational resources (OER).
OER's effect on student performance has been the subject of research due to its rising availability and
utilization. There are now even more alternatives for students to choose from when it comes to
textbooks thanks to the Open Educational Resources (OER) movement. Every sector continues to be
fundamentally impacted by technology. Technology is becoming more and more important in the
sphere of education every day. This report makes an effort to review open educational materials and
their distinctive and significant roles across many educational sectors. Active learning is then undertaken
once research is completed to introduce open educational materials using publicly accessible resources.
"The use of these video lectures is analyzed to develop next generation educational tools. A lecture
recording system is used to record lectures and is later launched on the web. Educational tools such as
Lectern, Synote, Media rich repository of learning objects, Opencast Matterhorn are helpful in recording
lectures.” According to Parkavi's study entitled "Open Educational Resources to Improve Students'
Learning and Performance: A Case Study with Practitioner's Approach". Researcher also stated that
Students who have missed their theoretical or practical lessons can easily refer to the website. They may
see the assignment questions on the internet for their active learning component to suggest the theory
idea that they have learned, figure out the answer, and submit responses, all of which can be done
online, even if they missed the courses.
