The entrance examination is an important way to recruit foreign undergraduate students at
Peking University. It aims to recruit more high-quality international students to study at
Peking University, and then cultivate innovative and leading talents with Peking University
heritage, Chinese feelings, and international vision for the world.

The study period for undergraduate students at Peking University is 4-6 years. Those who
complete the content specified in the training program and pass the graduation thesis
defense can obtain a graduation certificate. Those who meet the requirements for a
bachelor's degree will be awarded a bachelor's degree.

1. Application qualifications

1. In principle, applicants are required to be between 18 and 25 years old (as of September
1, 2005), in good physical and mental health, with a high school diploma or above, good
character and academic performance, and in compliance with the Nationality Law of the
People's Republic of China. Relevant regulations state that non-Chinese citizens holding
valid foreign passports are friendly to China and have no illegal or criminal records.

2. According to the "Nationality Law of the People's Republic of China" and the relevant
regulations of the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China [Jiaowaihan [2020]
No. 12], if both or one of the parents are Chinese citizens and have settled in a foreign
country, and the person has foreign nationality at birth, Do not have Chinese nationality. As a
foreign student applicant, he must hold a valid foreign passport or nationality certificate
before April 30, 2019, and have actually lived abroad for 2 years from April 30, 2019 to April
30, 2023. The above records (actual residence in a foreign country for 9 months in a year
can be calculated as one year, subject to entry and exit signatures).

3. According to the relevant regulations of the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic
of China, applicants who are residents of Mainland China (Mainland), Hong Kong Special
Administrative Region, Macao Special Administrative Region and Taiwan after immigrating
and obtaining foreign nationality as foreign students must apply by April 30, 2019 Previously
held a valid foreign passport or nationality certification document, and had a certificate of
cancellation of Chinese nationality, and had a record of actually living in a foreign country for
more than 2 years from April 30, 2019 to April 30, 2023 (one Actual residence in a foreign
country for 9 months during the year can be calculated as one year, subject to entry and exit
signatures).

2. Application materials

1. "Peking University Undergraduate Admission Application Form for Foreign Students"


(download and print after online registration), a 2-inch color ID photo with a white
background must be attached to the application form;

2. Full-time high school graduation academic documents (fresh graduates can provide
expected graduation certificate first), which must be original or notarized, in both Chinese
and English;

3. All courses and transcripts of high school or above must be original or notarized, both in
Chinese and English;

4. Original personal statement, either in Chinese or English;

5. A copy of the passport information page. The passport must be an ordinary passport
within the validity period;

6. Birth certificate and documents proving the nationality of the applicant’s parents at the
time of birth, including proof of permanent residence abroad;

7. Award certificate and relevant supporting materials (if any);

8. "Letter of Commitment for Undergraduate Admission Application for Foreign Students of


Peking University" (click to download the Commitment Letter Template). The PDF version of
the Commitment Letter must be clearly and completely filled out and signed by hand.
Applications without a Commitment Letter will not be accepted;

9. Applicants must upload a self-introduction video in the online application system (click to
download recording and upload requirements);

10. Other supplementary materials required by Peking University.

3. Application method

1. Apply online. Applicants log in to the Peking University International Student Online
Application System (website: http://www.studyatpku.com), select "Degree Students", enter
"Exam Admission Undergraduate Students", fill in the application information and upload
relevant materials. The online application system is open from 00:00 on January 1, 2023 to
23:59 on March 5, 2023 (the above are all Beijing time), and the time when the applicant first
submits information shall prevail.

2. Pay the application fee. After submitting your online application, you must pay the
application fee. In principle, the preliminary review results can be checked within 1-10
working days after the application is submitted and the application fee is paid. The
application form can be printed only after passing the preliminary review. Applications that
have not paid the application fee will not be reviewed.

3. Mail the paper version of application materials. Paper application materials are only
accepted by mail and cannot be submitted on site. Mailing time: March 1 to 10, 2023. The
mailing time is based on the postmark time sent by the local post office. To ensure that
materials are delivered on time, it is recommended to use China Post EMS or SF Express
for domestic mailing. Please see the contact information of the International Students Office
for your mailing address.

Application materials will not be returned. Applications with incomplete application materials
will not be accepted.
4. Preliminary test. After the paper version of the materials is reviewed and approved, the
applicant can participate in the preliminary examination. Preliminary test subjects: Chinese,
English, and mathematics. The preliminary examination will be held in early April 2023.
Please refer to the preliminary examination notice for the specific time and arrangement.

5. Retest. Only those who pass the initial examination can take the re-examination. Please
see the re-examination notice for specific time and arrangements.

6. Admission. Those who pass both the preliminary examination and the re-examination will
be admitted to the school. The preliminary examination list, re-examination list and
admission results can be checked through the online application system. After admission,
the school will still review the applicant's information and materials. If there are any violations
or fraud, the admission qualification will be canceled immediately upon verification.

7.Enrollment. From June to July 2023, the school will issue admission materials. In
September 2023, students will register for admission with their admission notice and other
relevant materials. The specific time and arrangement shall be subject to the registration
notice.

5. Related expenses

1. Application fee. RMB 800, payable online when submitting online application. The
application fee is non-refundable after payment.

2. Tuition fees. Science and engineering: RMB 30,000/school year; humanities and social
sciences: RMB 26,000/school year.

Tuition fee only accepts RMB cash, UnionPay card payment and online payment. Cash in
other currencies, traveler's checks and other other payment methods are not accepted.

6. Scholarships for foreign students

Students can apply for the "Peking University Scholarship for Foreign Students" and the
"Beijing Scholarship for Foreign Students" before enrolling. The "Peking University Foreign
Student Scholarship" covers tuition fees, living expenses, and medical insurance, and
award-winning students must participate in annual reviews; the "Beijing Foreign Student
Scholarship" subsidizes full or partial tuition fees, and the funding period is one year.
Scholarship applications are open in the spring semester of 2023. For specific application
methods, please pay attention to the relevant notices on the website of the International
Students Office.

7. Medical insurance
Students must purchase the "Comprehensive Medical Insurance for International Students in
China" from an insurance company in China. For those who fail to purchase medical
insurance as required, the school will not process the registration procedures.

8. Accommodation

Students are required to arrange their own accommodation during their studies abroad,
except for Chinese Government Scholarship students.

Peking University has international student dormitories of different specifications and

Those who live off campus must go to the local public security bureau to register for
accommodation within 24 hours after moving in.

9. Visa

Students must go to the Chinese embassy or consulate abroad to apply for an X1 visa to
come to China with the "Admission Notice" and the "Visa Application Form for Studying in
China (JW201/202 Form)". Within 30 days after entering China, the X1 visa must be
converted into a study-type residence permit.
