Mangatarem is a 1st class Municipality of Pangasinan (Region 1) which consists of 82 barangays and 222 sitios with

total land area of 31,750 hectares. Based from the census conducted by the PSA (2020), we have a total population
of 79,323. The majority of the residents of Mangatarem are engaged in agricultural activities as their means of
income. There are 7,628 farmers, 5,867 farm workers/crop farmers, and 327 fishermen living in the municipality.
Some are also employed in the government sector particularly in the local government unit, national government
offices and in the DepEd. A significant portion of the working force works for the private sector, while numerous
individuals, mostly married and have children are OFWs.
Commercial activities of the municipality are concentrated within the Población Area- the municipal public market and
along major roads. The CSI mall, Mercury Drug, Jollibee, McDonald’s, and Magic Mall are among the major
establishments/ enterprises constructed along the población area. While the primary economic driver which is
agriculture extends to almost overall area of the town.
The initiatives to strengthen the business sector in Mangatarem are evident especially in its compliance with RA
11032 through the establishment of Business-One-Stop-Shop (BOSS) as well as the proposal for Public-Private-
Partnership Code. Moreover, initiatives to allow tax incentives through a municipal investment code is one great step
to invite investors to fund development opportunities in the town.
The LGU-Mangatarem has also been active not only in its function in establishing policies that build opportunities for
businesses but also in promotion and building platforms to capacitate business operators specially the small-scale
business owners.
Continuous economic development of Mangatarem while preserving its natural resources and cultural identity are
vital parts in our Municipal Mission and Vison, even with the threat of the different disasters and the pandemic the
municipality can stand steadfast and resilient.
