Introduction

 Security at a construction site is concerned with


securing the overall site.
 It covers the security of plant and machinery,
data and information, and personnel.
 It is also associated and overlapped with OSH
issues.

 Theft.

 Sabotage.

 Arsons.

 Trespassing.

 Duties of Security Officer:
- Carry out regular independent security assessments
and surveys and provide reports and advice.
- Conduct investigations when crime is suspected or
known to have occurred.
- Quantify property loss and produce relevant statistics.

 Duties of Security Officer:
- Produce and co-ordinate site security standards and
procedures.
- Liaise with the local police in relevant circumstances.
- Involved in the security planning of the project.
- Obtain, produce ad circulate security publicity within
the project.

 Assess the location and nature of site,


consider:
- Level of crime risks.
- Standards of temporary accommodation – offices,
living quarters, etc.
- Perimeter fencing and gates.
- Storage and storage compounds including material
control.

 Assess the location and nature of site,
consider:
- Intruder alarm system.
- Compound lighting.
- Private vehicle parking areas.
- Site security surveillance.
- Site notices.

 Site Boundary:
 Depending on the location and nature of the site – full
hording/chain link fencing, etc.

 At a minimum height of 1.8 metres; and with overhead


protection where appropriate.

 No means of access – trees, accumulated debris that


enable for intruders to climb in.

- Instruction for visitors.

Summary

 Site security is required to not only to protect


onsite property but also the safety and health of
those at work and members of the public.

 Effective implementation of security controls is


depending on proper and systematic planning
prior to commencement of work.

Summary

 Depending on the locality and degree of crimes,


considerations must be given to the type of
fencing, sites for temporary accommodation,
movement of vehicles, personnel and off working
hour’s arrangements.
